Pink Saturday - Pink Trees

Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York,  has approximately 7,400 trees, and  has been described by an expert from the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens as the greatest collection of mature trees in New York City.

After I finished my volunteer session with the cemetery's historic fund a few weekends ago I walked around the grounds to take some photos for Pink Saturday of the glorious pink cherry and crab apple trees that were in full bloom all over the cemetery's grounds.

I'm sure by now most of the blossoms have fallen, and have been replaced by green leaves, but their beautiful pink color has been preserved by my camera lens to share here for all to see.

The blossoms were large and fluffy, like sweet cotton candy.

This Angel of Spring welcomes them!

Let's sit for a few minutes, take a deep breath and enjoy their beauty, for they come only once a year and last for such a short time. Ah......beautiful Spring!

Happy Pink Saturday!

To see more beautiful Pink Saturday posts please visit Beverly of How Sweet The Sound today!

Beverly asks us to introduce a blog that we visited on Pink Saturday last week.  I'd like to recommend Riet's Photoblog. Riet blogs from the Netherlands, where she lives with her husband of 49 years. She displays a photo or two a day of her beautiful country and family. I am always fascinated when she shows windmills, canals and Delft china which her country is famous for. Glad to know you, Riet!

What beautiful pink trees. Pink blossoms are my favorite, and you are right, they last for such a short time. Perhaps a reminder to embrace the beauty around us before it is gone.

Oh Pat!

This is a glorious pink and perfect Saturday post!

Look at all these lovely blooms! I love them close up like this - definitely like "large and fluffy sweet cotton candy"!!

Green Wood cemetary is an amazing place - I really appreciate all the information about this "hidden" gem (well I never heard of it until you opened up my eyes to it!!) and all the good works you and your husband do for this place. It really is worth preserving.

What happens to all the crabapples? There must be tons and tons of them!

Take care and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Unbelievably beautiful. Thank you so much for showing me this marvellous event as we do not have these trees in Brisbane. I love the pic with the tree hanging over the water. The tree has a wonderful shape and colour. It is more like a botanical garden than a cemetery.

When I was a kid, I grew up in Nutley NJ...we had a big tree like that in our front yard...it was beautiful and such a fond memory. The new owners cut it down, how sad...thanks for sharing these visions of beauty!

Those trees are gorgeous. Don't you wish spring with all its glory, would last a bit longer.

Thank you for introducing a new blog. If you recommend it, I'm sure it's one to add to my dashboard.

BTW - sometime this summer I'll be in NY for work and I'm hoping for time to meet up for lunch. I'll keep you posted as we schedule our trip.

Thank you Pat for mentioning my name on your blog. I am honoured. Now, these new pictures are breathtaking. Those blossoms are so beautiful. So sad that it can´t remain like that all year, but maybe then we wouldn´t see the beauty of it I suppose. And green of course is also a beautiful colour in nature.
Happy pink Saturday and I am happy to know you too Pat.

I'm not planning to be buried but this cemetery would certainly be a wonderful to have as a final resting place. What spectacular pink flowers! And it must look incredible when all the petals are covering the ground like pink snow.

I love the forays you've taken us on in this very special place.

Utterly gorgeous Pat! I am so loving the pink blossom now it's out here. Sadly though the clear blue skies are lacking. I did get one pic though when a patch of blue appeared so I was pleased.

Gorgeous pics!

I do believe these are some of the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen. The one with the Angel is my favorite (I completely adore angels). My husband and I would someday love to visit New York and he especially wants to see Brooklyn (being Italian I guess you would have to)
Thank you for sharing such a lovely place.
Enjoy, Dana

I'm always amazed at the nature photos you post. For most of us, the photos we see of New York are always concrete and pavement. Thank you for showing us the beauty of nature that DOES exist there!
