Cityscapes from the East River Ferry

If you liked the view of the Chrysler Building in my last post, you will probably like this photo's perspective.

Or how about this photo of the Empire State Building rising above all the buildings on 34th Street?

Or this view across the East River of the United Nations Headquarters Building?

All of those views of the Manhattan skyline were taken from the New York City borough with the best panoramic views of all -- Brooklyn!

To see them all yourself, all you have to do is take a ride on the East River Ferry over from Manhattan to the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn.....

...or visa versa.

The Williamsburg Bridge and the lower Manhattan skyline can also be seen in the distance from this ferry stop vantage point. The tall building under construction in the right of the photo above is the new World Trade Center One.

New York Waterway's East River Ferry provides frequent, reliable service that connects Manhattan with various destinations in Brooklyn, Queens and Governor's Island.

Prices at this time are as low as $4 for a one way ticket to $12 for an all day pass with hop-on hop-off access to all terminals. It's a wonderful way to travel and a unique way to see the city. I hope you hop on board the next time you visit!

I'm linking this post to the following blog events:
Watery Wednesday
Skywatch Friday
Potpourri Friday

Many thanks to all the blog hosts!

Great pictures Pat...they are so clear and crisp! My last job in New York was one block away from the Empire State Building and Macy's. I had an office with the most amazing views, making the late nights a little less painful. The lights at night were quite a sight...beautiful!

I love these pictures. I am really looking forward to my trip to NYC in November. I don't know how much we'll get to see but I'll be there!

You are a master of taking pictures of these big skyscrapers, and these are great. They are probably just like everyday scenes to you, but believe me we have nothing like this here! I love the light and shadows in the first picture.

It looks cool out on the water, but oh the views! Ferrying makes me feel a little unsettled. You?

Our local weatherman made a great big deal over the fact that NYC temps reached 56F today while ours never went above 34F. =)

So is the SI Ferry still 25 cents? It was 10 cents when I used to ride it! Thanks for the great views!!

Those are great views of New York. The $4 seems like a bargain.

I don't think we took this ferry but we were very glad we took the water tour of the area. We could have never have seen all we did in the limited time we had from land alone.

It is so beautiful that skyline. Thanks for that ferry ride.
I would also like to report it is a lot cheaper than a ride across to Vancouver Island fromt the mainland here.

But don't let that stop you from a visit.

Hello Pat, we are at the tail end of our Chinese New year here. As usual, I enjoy this virtual tour. Did I tell you that my girls aspire to go to New York one day...well, me too. Happy week my friend, hugs and love/ MK

Podso: The Staten Island ferry is FREE!! It has been for quite a few years--it is NYC's best bargain! :)

New York is a photographer's playground Pat and you captured some beautiful shots. OK, so Brooklyn has some great vantage points, but us New Jerseyans would argue we've got some terrific ones too.

That looks like the best sort of hop-on-hop-off tour! I love your views of New York, but most of all I love your narrative - you are the best tour guide!

In London, I love travelling leisurely by boat along the river Thames!! You do see the bestest most wonderful views of the city - in a most relaxed way and far far far from all the city noise and traffic!

Oh I jusst know if ever I do hop across the pond - this will be my first and bestest way to see this wonderful City's vistas! Take care

Great views. Love the Chrysler and Empire state buildings, especially with the blue sky in the background. When we were there the buildings were shrouded in fog.

I think the Chrysler Building is one of the more elegant buildings in NYC. I've never done that ferry. Will be coming to NYC end of March and hope to do a whirlwind tour of Brooklyn. Trying to figure out what I absolutely must see!

Terrific pictures. Look at that blue sky! We took the tourist boat ride around Manhattan once and I highly recommend it... it was so much fun and historically interesting. Thanks for the great post.

I haven't been to NYC in at least 15 years and would love to visit again. There is nothing like the skyline of Manhatten. On my last visit I took a Circle Line tour and loved the sights. It was fun getting so close to the Statue of Liberty.

Ah, nothing like a little view around NYC's splendid skylines to lift the spirits. :o) Thanks, Pat! ((HUGS))

This really sounds like a fun thing to do. A while back I went to the city in the afternoon to meet my brother and on the way home we took a ferry from Man. to NJ. It was dark though and cold, so we had to stay inside.

But I still loved it.

When I was a kid we used to take the Staten Island Ferry back and forth to go swimming in a big Staten Island municipal pool. We lived near South Ferry, so it was just a hop, skip and a jump.

Love your photos, Pat. The buildings in the skyline all look so razor sharp somehow.

This is a great idea - I've ridden on ferries in other cities like Seattle just for the views, but never in NYC. I will have to do that next time I'm there.
