Summer Retrospective

I've heard it said that "summer should receive a speeding ticket"!  Isn't that true? It seems as soon as summer arrives in the blink of an eye it is almost over. Like fruit ready to be harvested, our last days of summer were sweet, ripe, and juicy in enjoyment. (All photos and photo collages will enlarge if clicked on)

We took many hikes in our area and enjoyed the beauty of Colorado's Front Range

We spent lots of time with grandchildren, enjoying community playgrounds, parks, and pools.

We visited nearby scenic Red Rocks Amphitheatre to attend a concert by cello virtuoso, Yo-Yo Ma
If you'd like to listen to a few minutes of Yo-Yo Ma playing Bach at the concert --click here--to go to a video on my Mille Fiori Favoriti facebook page.

Watching twin fawns growing up, after their birth in our next door neighbor's yard in June, was very enjoyable! We've also been fortunate to see much other wildlife this summer--click here-- to read about that. One thing I really love about summer is its very long daylight hours and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Although we never seem to have enough rain in Colorado, we were finally blessed this August with some good showers (and some hail!)

We've also attended two exciting Broncos football exhibition games this August, that were held at Mile High Stadium in Denver!
More about that in a future post.

And as surely as August approaches its end, and the field grasses grow long and go to seed......

... it was "back to school" time in Colorado this past week, and also back to sports and school-related activities for our grandchildren.

Like the flight of a beautiful butterfly, the summer of 2018 has fluttered into its last few days and moments to savor.

Autumn comes early to Colorado's high elevations and the aspen trees will soon be turning glorious shades of gold. Autumn is my favorite season and I'm looking forward to cooler weather and fall activities.  Are you looking forward to the same? What was your favorite memory of the summer of 2018?

I loved your summer round up post. You have captured so many summer sights and activities. telling me about the end of your summer lifts my spirits as it means the end of our winter. Not that we have a severe winter at all but the days are shorter and the mornings and evenings are cold. I enjoy the hot days of summer although the humidity sometimes is hard to take. I like going for early morning walks in t-shirt and shorts and not been rugged up in jackets and long pants. Your grandchildren are so cute. Are they all at school now?

What a summer you've had full of wonderful adventures and quality family time, you are so blessed. In Europe summer is still in full swing, everyone is in vacation mode here in France and UK, school doesn't start for a few weeks yet! Love the shot of the butterfly, simply amazing.
Happy MM.

Pat - I am writing this from the Denver airport, following a 5-day visit to our daughter in Aspen/my brother and his wife in Glenwood Springs. More details coming in a post soon, but suffice it to say that this trip is an example of my favorite memories of the summer of 2018 - which is all about exploring and making new family stories that will be told for years to come. I am glad that you've had a good summer - and I hope the autumn brings you much joy - some of the aspens were already turning as we drove through Independence pass!

That’s a great quote about summer...so true! I’m clinging for all it’s worth. Your little granddaughter has excellent form at her karate class. All the grands are growing so fast.

Thank you for sharing.

Yummy peaches (in your yard?) love to eat them grilled with salmon! Great summer perspective, Pat and love your butterfly capture! I too, spent much time with grand children this summer, but more on educational things. Also, Colorado comes right after California (haha) in landscapes - so beautiful! Many thanks for sharing this wonderful summer in your state with All Seasons!

I love how YOU love Colorado! I do. too! We will get to come home by way of Wyoming and Colorado next month and I am so looking forward to seeing some of my favorite places once again!

What a great summer you had. I love that you took advantage of so much of it.
I love Fall. The summers here are okay but it gets incredibly hot, the fall is extended and the weather is drier and cooler and very sunny.

Your posts are always full of beauty, Pat! I love seeing the grands growing up so quickly. My youngest grand will be 14 this week and I can hardly believe that! Seeing Yo Yo Ma must have been thrilling in that beautiful venue. It's nice to see all the lovely activities you have enjoyed this summer, however brief. ♥

What a beautiful post, Pat. Yes, summer SHOULD receive a speeding ticket. It seems like mine started late and now it's nearly over. I adore your fawns and the human youngsters are pretty darned cute, too. Wonderful sunflowers!

What a great synopsis of your summer. The photos are beautiful. Fall is my favorite season also, but summer has gone by so quickly, I'm not quite ready. I've been on a lot of hikes this summer and just returned from a family vacation with all the kids and grandkids. Definitely a highlight of this summer!

Hi Pat and you're so right - summer goes by too fast. You live in such a lovely part of the country and your grands have grown so much. I enjoy seeing them on FB too! I know, I know, we seem a bit crazy leaving ours but we have really prayed about this and feel it's what God would have us do. Isn't it something, in Blogland we're always close?
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

You are right about summer needing a speeding ticket, where did it go? Like you idea of a retrospective blog. Think I'll try one. - Margy

What a lovely summer you've had with many shared experiences with the family. Ours is not over yet although our daylight hours are getting less.

That's a great quote about summer - it certainly does pass by quickly. What wonderful shots of summer you have here. The butterfly and the sunflowers are so pretty. Those grands are involved in lots of things, and are growing so quickly.
Our summer is not yet over; students return to school after the Labour Day weekend. I'm clinging to summer for as long as possible.
Have a good week, Pat.

You have had an amazing summer! You live in the perfect place for doing all those activities that lend themselves to making wonderful Colorado memories.

Amen to that! It doesn't feel like we got a summer due to moving back to Georgia. We spent the first weeks we were home getting the kids ready to go back to school and then school started. I need a pause button and need about two weeks of lazy days soaking up the sun and salt air. Looks like you had a blast!

What a fabulous summer you've had. It's been too smoky a summer in my neck of the woods so I'm really glad that Autumn is just around the corner to hopefully bring some quenching rain.

I am late to this summer wrap-up party, but I loved every moment of it! You had a fabulous season and I loved sharing the memories . Even though it has been years and years since our lives had to follow a school-year schedule, the first day of school will always mean the end of summer ...no matter what the calendar or thermometer say!

What a lovely fun filled summer you had. When we lived in New England, we too cherished every moment of the too short summer season. Fall was my favorite season there as well. Now that we live in Florida, seasons really don't change that much.
