Farewell Pepper

This is our little Pepper, my daughter's faithful friend of almost 17 years. He had to be put down today due to a terminal illness, and our hearts are heavy with the loss of one of the best cats we have ever known and loved.

He was our little bright eyes, thin smart and agile, always a gentleman in his manners, very cool and elegant, always attentive and alert.

His favorite activity was watching the birds and trying to catch errant leaves as they flew by the window in autumn. He would lay for hours purring in the sun of the windowsill, his fur warm and glistening in the light.

He loved to sleep and could find a comfy spot anywhere -- on our beds, on a chair, in a shoebox box in the closet, on top of the couch, or in the circular top of his cat stand.

Sleep well Pepper. We will always remember you! You made our lives better by sharing your life with us.

"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." ~ Anatole France

  1. Oh, I'm so sad for you today. How terrible to lose a furry friend.

There's a lovely poem about losing our pets and seeing them at another time. It's called the Rainbow Bridge.
My heart is with you and your daughter.

  7. Thinking of you and your daughter today. It's never easy saying goodbye to a beloved pet.

I once had a cat who could've been Pepper's twin. Her name was Cleo; she was well loved. I still miss her, but my memories of her are very sweet.

  10. Dearest Pat, My heart hurts for you and your loss. When my old beloved Sheltie, Brandy, died at 21yrs old we received a card from the mortuary that told about "we will meet them again in heaven someday at the Rainbow Bridge where they romp and play until we get there to be with them again". I can hardly see for the tears I share with you. Love and hugs, Sherry

  12. I'm so sorry for your loss. He is a beauty. He looks as regal as a panther. It hasn't been quite 2 weeks since my beautiful Lab Sam passed, so
I really feel what your going through. I don't know if you've ever read this before, but I found it last week when I was searching for comfort and it really helped me.

NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER FOR THE GRIEVING

I give you this one thought to keep -
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone -
I am with you still -
    in each new dawn

It sounds like Pepper will be in the autum leaves that blow. I hope you and your daughter, find comfort and peace, as your beloved Pepper has.

  13. I always get very upset when I hear of the loss of a pet, I am especially fond of cats, and I understand how much you are going to miss Pepper. But the decision you made was the right one, as you would not have wanted him to suffer unnessarily, and I am sure Pepper would have known that you loved him very much x
