This very pink house is located in an area of Brooklyn, New York, in a historic district called Park Slop which includes some of the best models of Renaissance Revival, Romanesque Revival, and Queen Anne-style brownstones from the late 1800s.
The house was painted pink by its elderly owner many years ago because it was his wife's favorite color!
Needless to say, it can't be missed if you are walking or driving down the street where it is located. It became quite a tourist attraction when the New York Times printed this story about the neighborhood reaction when the owner repainted it in an even brighter shade of pink, that you see above, a few years ago!

ReplyDeleteWell, Beverly, has taught me to appreciate the pinkess in this world, but I don't think I'd be too happy if I was a neighbor to that pink brownstone! Brownstones are so beautiful without the addition of pink paint. Guess the owner felt a pretty pink pot of flowers or even a pink concrete bunny wouldn't have made a big enough statement, huh?

He just as easily could have painted the inside walls pepto bismol pink instead of the outside. Great Sintra song, Autumn in New York!!

ReplyDeleteOh that is so funny! In another neighborhood in our small burb town a man painted his house Lime Green! He must have had a tiff with neighbors! It was a bright light lime green with darker lime green trim. It made the newspaper! The civic association in that neighborhood tried to sue him for his choice of color but the deed restrictions only say your house must be kept up and painted when needed! It was quite funny but I'm sure his neighbors weren't laughing!!

I grew up in a pink house, paler- than-that-pink house. Never again! I don't know what I think of that pink brownstone. It's interesting, but if I were the neighbor, I think that I'd want it back to its original color for a number of practical reasons. I'm such a stick-in-the-mud.

I'm pretty certain my neighbors here would not be too thrilled.

I once had Thanksgiving dinner with an Italian family in Queens and of course there was so much food! I love the Italian section of Brooklyn, especially in December with all of the Christmas decorations!

Oh, what a terrible thing to do to a brownstone! lol! Pink houses are pretty in certain places, like tropical areas maybe, but that definitely doesn't look like NYC to me:) How funny!
ReplyDeletePat, that house is so bright pink. Seriously I do not like it. We had a house in our neighborhood a few years ago and they painted it a bright orange. Oh, what a negative reaction from the neighbors. They had to re-paint because there was a rule about using an unsightly color. lol

Now I'm the first one who would love a pink house. But, even as a pink lover I would have to say NO to a pink brownstone. I would say no to any color other then brown. It's history! Leave them brown.

ReplyDeleteWow that is pink! Unfortunately I am the house painter with deep purple, berry red and turquoise being the front runners for my fav colour. I did offer to paint a barn once in deep purple but hubby said it would look like a giant Quality Street sweet stuck on the hillside! LOL

ReplyDeleteAnd the thing is...it's not "just" pink. It's, like, Pepto Bismol pink! I just look at the beautiful stone that's lurking underneath and my heart hurts.
Since there's a few pink houses in our Victorian town, I don't think our neighbors would mind. I think they would think we've lost our minds, however. :-)
That is something else, all right. Can't imagine being the next door neighbors to this guy!
