"A Kitchen Prayer"
O Lord of pots and pans and things,
Since I have no time to be
a great saint by doing lovely things,
or watching late with Thee,
or dreaming in the dawnlight,
a great saint by doing lovely things,
or watching late with Thee,
or dreaming in the dawnlight,
or storming Heaven's gates,
Make me a saint by getting meals,
and washing up the plates.
Warm all the kitchen with Thy Love,
and light it with Thy peace;
Forgive me all my worrying,
Make me a saint by getting meals,
and washing up the plates.
Warm all the kitchen with Thy Love,
and light it with Thy peace;
Forgive me all my worrying,
and make my grumbling cease.
Thou who didst love to give men food
in room, or by the sea,
Accept the service that I do-
Thou who didst love to give men food

I've enjoyed catching up with you this morning, Pat. The poem and stove are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a gorgeous wedding! Happy Anniversary to your son and daughter in law!
Hi Pat!
ReplyDeleteGreat poem/prayer! I've never heard that. And what a darling old stove. My grandmother had a big old stove like that one in her basement summer kitchen. I loved that summer kitchen when I was a child - great memories!
thank you Pat!!
Hugs, Sherry
Great Kitchen Prayer.... Love the stove!!
ReplyDeleteHave a Wonderful Day!!
Love,
Marilyn
What a lovely prayer:) And I LOVE that stove:D
ReplyDeleteOh I've always like that little verse and it was on a plate that I received for my first wedding. It broke, but I should try to do something with it in my craft room. Isn't that stove great?! I'd love one just like it.
ReplyDeleteI like that prayer...and will say 'amen' to that. And the stove is a wonderful reminder of days gone by.
ReplyDeletePat, that is a WONDERFUL poem and so, so true. Jesus spent a lot of time feeding people, both physically and spiritually, and He said that when we give another a cup of water in His name, there is reward there.
ReplyDeleteAnd your kitchen is a very well blessed place!
Love to you...
XO,
Sheila :-)
I really like that prayer, especially the final line 'I do it unto Thee'. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had that stove:) My Mom had two stoves. One in the kitchen and one in the basement. Cute poem.

Love the stove and the prayer even more!
ReplyDeleteI made a copy of that poem to put in my kitchen. I don't cook for my family like I used to. They do most of it and entertain for us. My oldest son had a stove just like that in his first home in Kingston New York. In fact everything they had in their house came from yard sales and thrift shops. The house looked like something out of county home magazine. Nice post. Thanks for sharing. Blessings
