Seeing Judy's antique 1947 Monarch car in her blog post a few days ago reminded me that I recently took photos of two very cool antique cars that were for sale outside a used car dealer's lot in Brooklyn, New York on Crospy Avenue.
These two beautiful vintage cars were literally stopping traffic outside Capri Auto Sales. Men were hopping out of their own cars to take a closer look. They certainly brought back some childhood memories to me.
Isn't this salmon pink convertible gorgeous? It is a 1957 Ford Fairlane Skyliner Convertible. Thank you, Sally, for helping me identify it!
A two toned green and white Chrysler New Yorker, complete with all the fancy chrome trim and large white wall tires that spoke of luxury in the day and age it was produced.
I'm almost certain both cars were sold that day, or soon afterward, as they aren't listed in the used car store's inventory, and some lucky car collectors have added them to their fleet.
What fun it must be to own and drive around in a beautiful "second time around" cars such as these!
I believe that salmon car is a 1957 Ford Fairlane, a "hot" car even when it first came out. Thanks for sharing and reminding me of some really fun times. Happy 2nd Time Around Day. Here's mine:

I love that salmon car. What a beautiful color!...Christine
ReplyDeletePat, those are some cool wheels! My husband was always into cars in a big way. He's had some beauties over the years, but he is now driving our nearly 30 year old Magpiemoblie, Volvo Wagon. LOL! He is so funny. But he had some snazzy wheels over the years, and these remind me of some of the classics he drove. Me? I'm happy if it rolls and has AC! ;-)
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila :-)
Pat... back to say, LOL! about the chair and the uniform! :-) And to say yes, I do remember EIP! I was always in love with the bottle. I wonder if they still make it???
ReplyDeleteI need to be working, and I am goofing. Better run before Mr. Magpie calls and catches me in the act of loafery (and that does not refer to making bread)! ;-)
XO,
Sheila
I showed this post to my Hubs & now he is "drooling on his shoes"!!LOL!! What man doesn't Love vintage cars!! Me??? I want a 57' baby bird!! Dare-to-dream.....

Hi Pat :)
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE vintage cars! Hopefully one day I'll have one for my very own :)
I read that article on that Twilight guy.... I don't get the whole weird stalker thing, so I feel bad for him. Women are so weird about those books and movies... I just don't get that either.
hugs,
rue
Whenever I see these cars of long ago I often like to sit and ponder and wonder at what it must be have been like back then, how people used their cars etc. Cuba is a haven for these beauties.
ReplyDeleteLook at those colors! Wow! I love them.
ReplyDeleteWe just had our Back to the 50's days around here a few weeks back and our little city was filled with over 12,000 oldies - but goodies. It sure is neat to see them. The event is held every year at our state fair grounds. It attracts over a 100,000 visitors every year. The main street going into the fairgrounds looks like a parade the Sunday afternoon when they all need to pull out. Those two sure are some beauties.
ReplyDeleteThis past weekend was the Hot Rod Association's muscle car show. So needless to say, it had Jacob drooling over all of the Camaros & Mustangs & the GTO's, etc. ~ Robyn
Boy that is a sign of the times. Selling an old, probably loved vintage car. That is usually the first thing to go when push comes to shove.I had a black and white 57 chevrolet once.

I would love that pink convertible...if I didn't have to park it on the streets of Hoboken, lol!
ReplyDeleteBack in the 80s when we were young and poor with 4 children, we had to sell our new Monte Carlo. We could no longer afford the payments. My grandfather had recently died. We bought his Ford Fairlane for $400. I can't remember the year it was anymore, but it was at least 10 years old then. I drove it for about 2 years until we bought another $400 car.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous collector's items. Just seeing them reminds me of episodes of "Happy Days"
ReplyDeleteHow fun to re-live the 'good old days' by enjoying the cars of that era. My sister and I drove a 1958 two-tone blue Meteor when we first got our license...and later a 1968 Mustang. Dad never wanted us driving his vehicles...so he made sure we had our own. I wish I still had the Mustang...but then I'd need a bigger garage. We can't ever go back...but it is fun to enjoy the memories. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletegreat post...love your colorado post too. I just offered a 1/2 price bid on a pink toy refrigerator that I've drooled over here and she called me and let me have it!! I can't wait to get it. My mom grabbed it for me and I know she thinks I'm crazy but I'm gonna do a whole teddy bear display with it. Thanks for putting the stove price in the window display...maybe my mom won't think I'm totally whack for getting my pink treasure. I'll get you a pic when I do the display up. denisemarie-Bloomin'
ReplyDeleteOMG! I'm in love with the Skyliner!! If the American auto industry made cars like that today...I'm not sure they'd be the trouble they're in!
ReplyDeleteHi Pat,
ReplyDeleteSomehow I missed this post. Sorry to be so long in commenting!
Love the photos of the antique cars! I remember one from the late 50's that was our family car!
