The Pink Brooklyn Brownstone is For Sale!

Do you remember this pink brownstone house in Brooklyn, NY, that I wrote about last October in a Pink Saturday post? The house is located in a historic neighborhood called Park Slope, which is particularly known for its expensive grand brownstones that date back to the 1800's situated along tree-lined streets.
This house was re-painted pink by it's elderly owner three years ago because he said it was his wife's favorite color.

This week the New York Daily News reported that the house was for sale! The owner is 92 years old and feels the house is too large for him to keep up any longer. He, and his wife, are moving to a smaller home nearby. The asking price for the house is $2.3 million, and. according to the listing real estate agent the house has "good bones" but will need some updating!

Here are two photos of the interior of the house that were on the Heights Berkeley Realty web site when the news article first appeared:

There appears to be some lovely original woodwork inside, and multiple fireplaces. Just imagine the fun to be able to refinish and redecorate this house?

I saw this news article about the sale this past Tuesday, but the listing has already been taken down. The agent said there was much interest in the home, so perhaps there was already an accepted offer?

I guess PINK does sell well!

  1. It does have good bones but the pink exterior would have to go if I lived there. But, I bet the pink helped it sell because it brought it to people's attention.

Happy Pink Saturday. Please stop by my kitchen when you get a chance, I have an award for you.

  2. I love the interior and all that woodwork, but I'd get rid of the pink first thing too. Maybe I'd keep it through October since it's breast cancer awareness month!

  3. Wow. Stunning. Happy Pink Saturday and nice weekend.

  4. The pink definitely catches one's eye!! Reminds me of San Francisco's "painted ladies" - the glorious Victorians of every color and hue.

  5. OMGoodness.... you just know I lust for Brownstones!! If I bought it I would definitly restore it to the original brownstone color. I am surprised the city let them paint it that color...
    Have a Great Day!

  6. Great picture but can I ask are all Brownstones that expensive or just the pink one? i always fancied living on one of those.

    Happy Pink Saturday :)

  7. I like the brown Brownstones...the pink is a little much! But the inside is very cute and traditional...I wonder if it will sell???

  8. How bad a guy could he be :-). Not many men would do that, that's for sure. I don't think I'd do it. The pink exterior is a bit much and I'm thinking how expensive it will be to blast it off. The house is probably gorgeous throughout but I'll wager it needs new bathrooms and a kitchen. Thanks for finding this to share with us. have a great day.

  9. I'd buy that and keep it that color. I don't know why, but I would. :)

  10. We were just commenting on Facebook last night that maybe we should paint our houses pink so they would sell. LOL! I'm thinking it works. Of course, the location, style, and woodwork don't hurt.

    Happy Pink Saturday!

  11. WOW...that is PINK!! Much as I adore the color pink, not sure I'd paint anything exterior in the shade, and not hot pink either--LOL! But it is very fun. It is rather surprising they were allowed to keep that shocking pink color. It certainly is eye-catching! I wouldn't be surprised if it's sold already... Great post for Pink Saturday, and this month too. Happy weekend, Pat :o) ((HUGS))

  12. Sure can't miss that house. They probably sold that house in one hour because of the location alone. Wonder if the new owners will keep it pink? I think one would have to have a thing for pink flamingos:)

  13. Wow, is that what houses go for in Brooklyn these days?? Over two million, looks beautiful inside, they have maintained the original woodwork, which is great, but I would repaint the outside PURPLE!!

  14. Maybe I'll win the lottery and I could move to Brooklyn! It does stand out from the rest.

  15. Now, that is one pink house, Pat! LOL! How did they do this without the historical society throwing a fit? I love the brownstones in Brooklyn. They are truly charming. A friend of mine lived in one years ago when she lived in NYC and was the public relations director for BAM. She died a few months after returning to the South, and not a day goes by that I don't miss her. She was so talented and FUNNY.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  16. The house certainly is colorful and I like it. Are there any cheaper brownstones available? Sure is a lot of money, especially if it needs some updates!!

  17. OH! The incongruity of it all!!

  18. It's so cute! I wonder if he would have been as accomodating if she was a fun of, say, zebra stripes?!? The inside is gorgoeus, isn't it? If I could even afford it I doubt if I would have enough funds left to change the color...so it would have to be pink for a long, long time! Cute post!

  20. Yes, the interior has good bones and it would be lovely to live there! I agree that the pepto bismol exterior would have to go!

  22. THANKS EVERYONE for all your nice comments!

I just wanted to add that the pink house was "grand fathered" because the owner had painted it a lighter shade of pink already 42 years ago, when they first moved in, and the land marked status of the neighborhood was not yet in effect at that time. When the landmark status came into effect the house color did not apply to his house as it was already painted.

  23. Whoa!!! That is one Pink house! LOL
I would hope that the new owner would rectify that horrid (to me, anyway) color. Happy Pink Saturday, Pat. hugs, Sue

  24. I wonder if the new owner will continue the paint color tradition? Those window frames in the living room are magnificent.

  25. This is a perfect Pink Saturday post Pat. It amazes me the things that people do. I hope the elderly couple enjoys their new smaller home and that their feelings aren't hurt when the new owners repaint the exterior as they undoubtedly will!

  26. Well, I love that house and all those large windows! Wonderful!

  27. What a totally amazing house - but 'pink' and 'brownstone' almost seem a contradiction in terms. I bet the neighbours were up in arms when it was first painted!

    Happy Pink Saturday!

  28. Hi Pat, I wonder how much time it will take for the new owner to repaint? One day, we will say remember the pink house...

  37. Sorry I'm a little late. Seems like when the sun is out I feel a desperate need to go outside and run errands or just life my face to the heavens and soak in the last rays before winter hits my neck of the woods.

  42. Hi Pat,

It looks like it got a fresh coat of even "Pinker" paint...oh dear! The inside looks intriguing although it looks like its been striped of some of the old character. Happy will be the person who gets to buy it, although if it were me I'd have the whole exterior sandblasted ;-).

I got your email the other day about the cute little Gingerbread Cottage in the Lake District. It looks like a great place to visit! I had fun looking at the site and need to look with better detail.

Are you getting cooler weather? Ours was cooling off, then became hot again...YUK!!!

I hope you have a lovely Sunday!

    xoxo Cori

  44. Wow! I'm surprised a historical society or something didn't protest the pink paint!!! It was definitely a bold move! Lovely woodwork on the inside!

  45. Isn't it wonderful how much he loved his wife? I know he and his wife must have shared much love within those walls.

Happy Pink Saturday, Pat. And, thanks for sharing.

  46. That colour would not have been permitted by the council here..it sure is bold!..there are some lovely features in the home and can imagine what could be done! :)

  47. Wow! That's SO pink it looks fake and photoshopped! I love it when anyone is brave enough to make such a bold statement... but I still hate the bright orange house around the corner from me... so clearly, I'm conflicted!

  50. The woodwork is wonderful. Especially love the windows. I don't know what I would do regarding the pink. At this point the pink house has been pink for 40 years. I would think that at this point, the house has its own historical value.
