There were even large potted poinsettias on every luggage carousel. They were a wonderful and festive decoration and, along with the holiday music playing over the airport speakers, made everyone smile.
The next sight we were greeted by in Denver was snow! We happened to arrive on one of the coldest weeks the city has had this year. It was five degrees Fahrenheit on the coldest day, but just as Arizona has their "dry heat," Colorado has it's "dry cold," and it honestly seemed a little less stinging and freezing than what we are used to here in NYC when it is that cold.
This was the view from my son's home's front porch for much of the time of our visit.
When Denver has a snowstorm the bright hot sun usually warms the air and melts the snow in a day or two, but the unusually overcast skies and cold air prevented that from happening this time. I thought it added a pretty winter appearance and was Christmas card perfect!
The Colorado State Capital building in Denver. The capitol building was built in the 1890's. In 1908 they used 24 karat gold to plate the dome to commemorate the Colorado's Gold Rush days. The Colorado capitol has the distinction of being the only state capitol situated exactly one mile above sea level -- and there is a step in front of the building which is marked at exactly 5,280 feet high.

The Denver Public Library The 540,000-square-foot structure was designed by architect Michael Graves. The library holds a large western history and genealogy collection as well as a large African American research library.
The Denver Art Museum is known for its collection of American Indian art, and has a comprehensive collection numbering more than 68,000 works from across the world. We were able to visit one day and I'll show you some of their exquisite collection in a future blog post.

I believe this is Longs Peak in the distance -- one of the 54 "fourteeners" in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, meaning it is over 14,000 feet high.
Now for my sincere apology. It has been an unusual month for me. In the middle of traveling, dealing with the inconvenience of my foot stress fracture and treatment, and trying to do Christmas shopping and decorating, another event occurred recently which had terrible timing ----my computer decided to go haywire after I updated my browser and virus program. I lost my settings, my favorites files. Eventually I lost all normal operation of almost everything on my computer. It was a total disaster! I now realize how much of my life revolves around my computer and I really felt lost without it.

Luckily Santa Claus rewarded me with a brand new lap top computer for Christmas a little early, and I have been setting it up and learning how to use it the past few days. I apologize that I haven't been responding to e-mails or blog comments as much as I'd like this past few weeks, but I promise to try to catch up as soon as I am able -- please be patient with me just a little longer.
Thanks so much! I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to visiting your blogs.

What a beautiful city. Pat. you are the very best at showing us around and giving us such interesting facts.
ReplyDeleteI totally empathize with computer pain. I know I am a true computer addict. Do you think we need to form a support group? ;-)
Oh Pat! Love the pictures as always. That poinsetta display is spectacular. You don't need to apologize to me, girl. I'm happy when you post and happy when you visit and happy you're busy! Not happy about your computer, though. What a pain for you!
ReplyDeleteYou'll love the laptop. I really miss having one. But when the last one lasted only one year before it completely crashed, I'm leary of getting another one. $900bucks for one years use.
ReplyDeleteDear Pat,
ReplyDeleteThe last Time I was in Denver was 1963..Holly Cow!
Has it changed,.. My husband had the first Donut shop in Denver.
Thank you for sharing..That was real cold. weather, It's 20 degrees here in Maine Cold..
Beautiful pictures of Denver, Pat. I've been several times but not in the last twenty years! I had a traveling companion who used to own Hammond's Candies there!
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, my computer crashed and, in spite of my son's constant reminders, I had backed up nothing. I am still pretty remiss.
Glad you're back. Have a wonderful Christmas!
Beautiful pictures of Denver and the mountains. You must have been a very good girl that Santa gave you a laptop early. ")) Congratulations
ReplyDeleteRelax, Breath, Kiss your honey, have a cocktail...it will all be okay. So glad that you will be back blogging. You are always missed. But, your writings are always so interesting that it is fun to go back and re-read them again. Take care of yourself and always looking forward to your voice. Sea Witch
ReplyDeleteI'm always so sad to hear about people having computer problems - they seem to be inevitable but a real pain in the neck. My sympathies to you but great news you have a new one. A new one is a challenge to set up too - I know, I just got one. I'm addicted too. Maybe we need a 12 step program.
ReplyDeletePhotos of Denver are fabulous. Burr to the weather. If you were home, it's coming your way this weekend. Stay warm.
Sam
Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays!
Sandra
Glad Santa brought you a new laptop, you'll love it. It was so nice to see the snow and listen to your great Christmas music. Have a Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeletePat, don't apologize. There is so much going on right now that we're all feeling the pinch. Just please don't lose me! LOL! I want to be sure we are still in touch! :-)
ReplyDeleteLoved all of your pics of Colorado and glad you had a good time there with your sweeties. I'm also glad you got a new lap top. That's what I'm working on now. You will enjoy it!
Sending you much love across the miles...
XO,
Sheila :-)
Beautiful pictures! I need a laptop also! lol But actually this year want a "big camera"! LOL! Hugs Grace
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Pictures!!! I have never been to Denver! Mountains are breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! Thank you for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas! You must have been a very good Girl this year!
Beautiful pictures from Denver, Pat. I have been there twice--but didn't do much touring of the downtown area. Love the Poinsettia pictures and of course, I love seeing the Rockies in the distance. Gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteHope you all are okay --and will be okay, with that storm on the way. We just got rain/freezing rain and sleet. YUK...
Hugs,
Betsy
Oh, Pat, I am so sorry to hear what happened to your computer. I had the same thing happen and had to take my computer back to out of the box a while back...and it was a pain!
ReplyDeleteOh, isn't Denver beautiful. We were out there quite a few years ago - as a matter of fact - they were just putting on an addition to the Art Museum and while I was able to visit the older part - I could not get into the new part - they were doing that on a lottery which you had to be at the museum really early to get a time stamp.
Really enjoyed my time there...
Glad you're back, Pat, and I really enjoyed my virtual trip to Denver. I've never been to Colorado, only to the Canadian Rockies, but I definitely plan to visit there soon. Having recently experienced a dead monitor, I can commiserate over the blogger's dilemma when technology fails. Glad all is well. Those pointsettias were gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWhat a grand visit you took us on. Glad things are getting back to normal with you. Stress fracture? My sprained ankle from September has not healed yet - so I know. And yes, we are tied to the computer - but in good ways I hope.
ReplyDeletePat, Congratulations on the new computer. You make Denver look beautiful...the mountains are majestic! I would love to walk through that library one day. Also a very happy belated birthday to your favorite little guy...he is adorable. Love those first birthday cake pictures. Wishes for a very Merry Christmas.
ReplyDelete♥, Susan
Such wonderful photos! I was *so* hoping to get to Denver this trip to the States to visit a friend, but it wasn't possible...thanks for transporting me :)

ReplyDeleteYou made it back home just in time for the snow! Too bad you had computer problems - that is such a pain, but take it slow and you'll get caught up eventually. Don't stress.
ReplyDeleteHi Pat, it's good getting caught up with you a bit. I love your tour of Denver and seeing it in the snow. I've only been out that way in the summer.
ReplyDeleteHope your foot is healing well and that you'll be back to walking around the city soon!
Have fun with your new laptop--hooray for Santa!
Hi Pat,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your beautiful photos of Denver, CO. My hubby loves the mountains! You will love your laptop. I believe mine is hooked to my hip - it goes everywhere with me. I never thought I could get use to not using a mouse but now I am so use to using my pad I can't do the "mouse" anymore. My laptop is an Apple and I love it. I know what you mean our internet service was down for a day this week and I had with drawl. I feel disconnected when I can't surf the internet or view my blog.

OMG, love and miss those mountains. Thanks for sharing them. I'm so glad to know you got a new computer!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos of such a beautiful place, but my favorite is the poinsettia "tree", If it were practical, that is what I would have in my home every year.
ReplyDeleteComputer problems, they are the worst! One of my external hard drives is in California right now, having the files retrieved to the tune of $855. Just can't believe I didn't have my work files backed up.
The other thing I can't believe is that your adorable grandson had a Hummingbird Cake for his first birthday. My favorite and I've been waiting for an occasion to make it and post it for Foodie Friday.
Merry Christmas Pat to you and yours!
Back by to wish you a Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila :-)
Those mountain views are just breathtaking! Wow!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your computer woes. I hope you didn't lose too much info. Like you, I would find it hard to go computer cold turkey. Isn't that Santa a great guy!
Beautiful place. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays!
Reading about your trip to Denver reminds me of visiting Minnesota one Christmas. We left in the middle of Santa Ana winds and 85+ degree temperatures at LAX and landed in snowy conditions with a temperature of 9 degrees .... BRRRRRR! Sorry about your computer woes ... been there and done that too many times but a new laptop is pretty kewl ;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday ;-
Hugs and blessings,
Happily Retired Gal
A lovely winter tour of Denver! The only part of Denver that I have seen...is the airport (and I don't recall it looking so nice way back then!).
ReplyDeleteSorry abvout your computer problems...but how nice to have a new one arrive ahead of schedule. Enjoy!
Computer death happens to all of us. I hope you'll be up and running well soon!
ReplyDeleteYour Birthday boy looks so cute!
Hia Pat, now where to begin with my comments- so much to comment on. How lovely that you had such pretty weather. The library building reminded me of children's wooden blocks -fantastic! I wish more buildings were designed so creatively.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are back from your computer nightmare.
Beautiful flower display. Wonderful scenic photos.
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays to you and your family. Glad you have a brand new, spankin' computer. Cool, isn't it? ;-)
Hugs,
Paz
Sorry for your computer troubles Pat, I would be so stressed if that happened to me. Thank goodness for Santa! Congratulations on your new laptop, and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Beautiful photos, Pat! My daughter lives in Vail; she and her husband called me from Denver the other day to tell me about all the snowy beauty they were seeing.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful you have a new laptop and I hope you get all your folders, documents, and programs set up without any further problems.
Happy to see you up and running with your computer and maybe your foot too. Looks like you had a fun time at the little guys first birthday and he certainly liked the frosting:) He is adorable and time sure flies too quickly with the little ones. Ours will be coming here for the holidays and we can't wait. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years.
ReplyDeleteJoyce

Hi Joyce! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you! Enjoy your grand daughters visit! Will you try to begin a blog this year? I'd love to help you if I can.
ReplyDeleteHi Yvonne
Mille Fiori Favoriti is the Italian words for a "thousand favorite flowers" -- it's not my name ---lol--- when I first began blogging I used that as a title as I thought it represented what I thought about having a blog --that I'd be collecting my thoughts, experiences and travels as if they were a bouquet of flowers :-)
I appreciate your thinking about me and I will enjoy looking at the Old Long Island blog! I love old and historical places and homes etc.
Hi Pat! Amazing pictures! We are also freezing here at +3ยบ centigrade; we freeze at higher temperatures... ;))
ReplyDeleteTime to relax with a visit to a museum? Blogtrotter is at the British! Enjoy and have a great holiday season!
You have nothing for which to apologize! And you have been busy with real life!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you were in Colorado for the big day! He is absolutely adorable!
