Simply Autumn ...Simply Bags

I hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween!   On Saturday I visited a place I've often blogged about, the magnificent and historical Green-Wood Cemetery located at 500 25 Street and 5th Ave, Brooklyn New York.  Green-Wood has one of the finest collection of century-and-a-half-old trees in New York City, in addition to beautiful shrubs and flowers.  The beautiful Gothic front gates of the cemetery are visible in the upper left of this mosaic and views around one of its glacier ponds.
I knew that there would be beautiful autumn colors in the cemetery and I was not disappointed. As you can see in the images in the photo mosaic above the lovely warm autumn we've been having here this year in New York City has kept the grass green and the flowers growing. The trees were all dressed in glorious shades of orange, gold, russet and crimson.

(all mosaics can be enlarged by clicking on them once and then again when they open on a new page)

A mosaic of some of the flowers I saw in Green-Wood this weekend.  It's hard to believe that Clematis, Roses, Irises, were are all blooming so well in late October! I wonder when we'll get our first frost?

I'll show more beautiful photos of the cemetery in my next blog post. No matter how many times I wander along its paths I always find something new to photograph.

I have to say a special "Thank You" to "Simply Bags" for sending this beautiful monogrammed lap top bag to me as a gift! This stylish lap top bag is nice and roomy; made of dark brown colored canvas and blue patent trim, and the monogram is beautifully embroidered. The inside wall has a zipper pocket, and a pen and business card slot. It has a side to side zipper closure for ease in computer insertion and removal. The lengthy handles allow for comfortable underarm carry. I like that very much because I find it is easier to carry my laptop this way when I am handling all my other luggage.  It has been nice to carry my lap top in it when I travel and I've also used it to carry my library books, as its nice and sturdy.

* Disclosure: I received this monogrammed lap top bag from Simply Bags for free, value under $40, and no other compensation was received. My opinion of the bag is my own and I was not influenced or compensated in any way for this review.

I'm adding this post to Mary of The Little Red House Mosaic Monday and Sally of Smiling Sally Blue Monday event. Please visit both lovely ladies and see their posts and the links to all the blogs participating in their events today!

  3. Hi Pat! I'm a NY'er myself! I love your blog and your photos are super! I have not been Green-Wood Cemetery yet but it keeps coming up in all the books and blogs that I have been reading so, I'm guessing I need to take a trip some day soon. Your mosaics are really neat too! I'll be back to visit often. Great subject matter.

  8. Beautiful autumn celebration. The windstorm took away our colors. Sigh. How nice that you can breathe it all in and share with us. Happy halloween - may you have more treats than tricks!

  9. You are really having some wonderful fall colors. We have had some light frost and our first hard freeze this past Friday night. I always love a cemetary. Some are so artistic and they are always peaceful.

To answer your question about my photography...I do use some Photoshop Elements in my pictures, but I also love working with Picnik on the web. Picnik is a lot of fun to play around with and not so technical.

  12. Oh wow!! This is simply autumn done beautifully!! What a setting!! I do enjoy your posts on the amazing Green-Wood Cemetary! It really lives up to its name with its solemness and greenery!

Oh the trees do not disappoint!! They are gorgeous colours!! I do like your closeups of clematis, irises and roses!! If it weren't for the autumnal colours I'd say it's summer still!!

Winter is definitely just round the corner!!

Oh wow!! I love your laptop bag!!! It's really lovely - I have a very boring one in a utilitarian design but this one is just lovely!

    Happy Halloween!! Take care

  13. I like that bag! I'm hoping for a smaller laptop one of these days and then I'll replace my laptop case too. That case looks like it would be easy to carry and handle, and when I travel for work I try to check nothing at all, so a handy laptop bag would be helpful.

  18. Again, your pictures are so wonderful. I know I keep saying that but I just can't get over how fabulous they always are. What a beautiful place to celebrate fall. I'm so happy to hear you are having a mild fall and I hope it remains that way through the winter. I know the east coast really suffered last winter. It's hard to believe that all those leaves are still on the trees at the beginning of November. Spectacular photos, as always! I hope you are enjoying the weekend.

  33. All of the photos in your mosaics are beautiful. The weather here was so nice today. I had the front and back doors open most of the afternoon enjoying the sounds of children playing outside and acorns falling on my roof, rolling off and hitting the ground. Apparently, I have a bumper crop of acorns this year.

  51. When we went to New York City a couple of weeks ago we had Green-Wood on our list of places to visit but that day the weatherman said it would rain. It did, in late afternoon, so we should have gone anyway, but we did not, we went to the Tenement Museum instead. That was worthwhile too.

  52. Hi Pat, I have seen your posts about Greenwood, and it is beautiful all year round.

That is a lovely laptop bag.

  53. It's good to be able to enjoy the colour before the monochrome months of winter set in. You are doing amazingly well to have so many flowers blooming so late in the year. Hope it lasts a while longer.
