It was a very blustery Autumn day last Friday, and before all the leaves blew off the trees here in Brooklyn, New York, I thought I better go out and take some photos to capture their beauty.
I was in Park Slope, walking around Fifth and Seventh Aves. As you can see more than one tree grows in Brooklyn, and they were scattering golden and red leaves all over the stoops and sidewalks.
There is an eclectic assortment of homes in this neighborhood, many dating back to the 1800's. This charming house looks like it may have been a carriage house at one time, judging from the large doors.
A block of vintage apartment houses.
Another block has brownstones in different color hues.
Don't these wood clapboard homes look like they could be found in Colornial Williamsburg?
These views remind me of an Edward Hopper painting.
I found this small public corner garden charming!
The avenues in Park Slope, Brooklyn are full of interesting shops and boutiques.
And some stores cater to Brooklyn pride.
Park Slope is considered one of the most desirable neighborhoods, and it is easy to see why!
I'm adding this post to the following blog events:
Mosaic Monday
Our World Tuesday
Ruby Tuesday
Beautiful neighborhoods! I especially love the clapboard homes... what a surprise to see them in the city. Autumn seems to be lingering an extra long while this year.
ReplyDeleteHi Pat, Brooklyn (and Park Slope) are such interesting places. I love seeing the brownstones... You never see them around here.... Such a neat place---and your Fall colors are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Our older son (the one in S.F.) lived in Park Slope just after grad school. We loved the area! Your photos are wonderful. I agree that those clapboards could be in Colonial Williamsburg--just maybe a little more sedate in colors. It is indeed nice to know that more than one tree grows in Brooklyn and they are quite colorful.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Your every post just outshines the last!! Didn't think you could top that last one......but you did!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, hopefully the leaves are still on the trees in 2 weeks time! :)
ReplyDeleteThe clapboard homes are really pretty, such pretty colors! And you have found a little oasis in the middle of the city with the public garden. I would love to walk through the shops.
ReplyDeleteMy, what beautiful neighbourhoods! I love all the beautiful homes and buildings as I love architecture! The trees are gorgeous. Very interesting post. Blessings, Pamela
ReplyDeleteWow - great photos! I'm in Toronto and we go to NYC at least once/year but I've only ever seen Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Park Slope is gorgeous! I wish I had more time to explore Brooklyn but NYC has so much that I never have time to fit it all in. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour fall photos are splendid. I don’t tire of looking at the great foliage this year. The first photo with exploding warm colors is stunning. I also think that brownstones go so well with the glow of autumn – makes a lovely background.
ReplyDeleteYou always find the most beautiful spots to photograph and share, Pat. These are extraordinary, better colors than those I've seen taken in New England this year! Now I am in a mood to go down there and have dinner at one of those great restaurants. xo
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos of the borough I was born in. Oh, that my parents had stayed there, instead of moving to Connecticut. There are times when I wish I lived in a real city such as New York. You are so lucky.
ReplyDeleteIF I liked the cold and had the money this looks a lovely neighborhood to live in...the fall leaves are beautiful beyond words and the different architecture is definite eye-candy! Enjoyed my tour and your photos!
ReplyDeleteBrooklyn is such a pretty place. You offer a view that I'd never before seen. I always enjoy your tours!
ReplyDeleteThe fall colour is nearly all gone here, and the fog and the rain have rolled in. The leaves are still too wet to rake, but that gives us a wonderful excuse to laze about on this Sunday morning.
Fabulous mosaics and neighborhoods! The fall colors are glorious!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pics Pat, especially the first one:@)
ReplyDeleteThe leaves are beautiful! And so are the buildings. That is a gorgeous area, for sure.
ReplyDeleteBrooklyn pride never leaves you! I left my heart in Mill Basin and Brighton Beach, still love the place. Park Slope is wonderful, I love the shots you took, beautiful neighborhood! You always make me nostalgic, Pat :)
ReplyDeleteSo special to see a city autumn. Apparently early snow fall left then still blazing?
ReplyDeleteWow! Those colors, and that neighborhood, might convince me to give up my country living. Just gorgeous.
ReplyDeletePat I love this post! There is such richness to fall colors and you certainly have given tribute here! Your photos are outstanding as is the area you photgraphed. I would love to live there! Have a great week~
ReplyDeleteThis country girl didn't realize autumn could be so beautiful in a big city!
ReplyDeletePat - Love Park Slope and the colors you captured on the trees are gorgeous. I agree with you about those houses looking like Williamsburg.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots of the neighborhoods!! And the leaves are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been able to comment for days....computer keeps locking up.
I installed new virus software and deleted the old and it's working at the moment. So frustrating! I was blaming all my problems on IE-9 Maybe that wasn't the problem at all.
I love the houses of Brooklyn. They are historic and colorful. Looks like a fun neighborhood to explore.
ReplyDeleteIf I could, I'd move there immediately if not sooner. :)
ReplyDeleteIt all looks like a very neighborly sort of place. Thanks for the great photos, Pat. The trees and buildings look wonderful.
We didn't have a great Fall season here. The trees didn'tt do much in the way of color.
Hi Pat, I just love the fall colors just gorgeous, I was born in Brooklyn N.Y, Now I live on Long Island, I travel to the City as often a I can :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your beautiful pic's with us :)
xo~Mari
Oh Patsy!! I want to move there -especially in those clapboard houses! What a stunning place - and the autumnal trees really add even more charm to such a lovely area - it's almost "village like"!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a most wonderful stroll through Park Slope! Take care x
GORGEOUS Fall photos... ooooh if only we had those sights here... le sigh!
ReplyDeleteThose are amazing pictures...what a lovely area!!The color is wonderful...we get nothing like that here in California...lots of yellow and some orange...but very little reds. While you were in San Juan Capistrano...were you able to eat...there's a wonderful cafe called Cedar Creek Inn that Don and I eat at every few months.
ReplyDeleteOh, what beautiful colours. I miss autumn!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised there were still that many leaves on the trees. Beautiful photos. I miss those colorful leaves so much. The silk variety I buy at Michael's just aren't quite the same. And yes, I would have guess Williamsburg long before Brooklyn.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful, Pat.
ReplyDeleteI never lived in Brooklyn, nor did either of my parents or grandparents.
They all started out in Queens like me. But we moved when I was young.
I remember going to Bklyn as a child to St Charles Hospital, our family was involved in a medical study there. The smell of the factories used to make me sick. I actually think it was a coffee factory, but early in the morning , this then 5 yo couldn't take it.
Oh those brownstones! All of these views are beautiful Pat and more so because of the time of year. It was a perfect day for a walk.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs. This is the reason I miss living in NYC. Nothing tops that!
ReplyDeleteMaureen
Pat, you know I enjoyed those beautiful old girls as much as the colorful foliage!! I could so enjoy visiting Park Slope!! Thank you for taking me along. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteHi Pat, when you try to come to your blog from Red house it comes up with a sort of google spam thing. You may want to check it out, It may just be my safari server.
ReplyDeleteThe colors are so vibrant and beautiful! We love to watch You've got mail at this time of year! I was just on the Mosaic Monday post and your link doesn't seem to be right. It didn't link to your blog. Hugs! ♥
ReplyDeleteWow...that first picture is stunning. Loved this post. I always wonder what is on the inside of those buildings. Hope you have a great week Pat!
ReplyDeleteI think you had better colour than we did in Ontario for autumn leaves - fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThe homes and shops you've shown have interesting architecture; thanks for sharing these wonderful photos.
new york is my favorite fall destination.
ReplyDeletebeauty everywhere! thank you for
sharing with us!!!
Thank you for the tour. The leaves look fabulous against some of rich colours of the older homes. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteSo, so beautiful, Pat. I'm thankful you had the mind to snap shots before the leaves were gone with the wind. I love these photos. They elicit a strange sense of melancholy in me. Strange because I've never been to NYC or anyplace that looks like this yet it feels like home. Thank you, as always, for sharing.
ReplyDeleteStunning photos - thank you for reminding me how many lovely trees there are in the city.
ReplyDelete:)
ButterYum
Absoulutely stunning foliage. And the colors of the homes are perfect for autumn's colors. I'd love a stroll through this neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful architecture, and the fall colours are gorgeous. So intense and rich.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful colors ...and the architecture is so diverse...love it...Have a beautiful week!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to think you and I were on the same wave length today. We went for a drive...not through the city but through the country to catch the last of the beautiful colors.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you have ever taken that beautiful highway that leads north from New York towards Canada. I can't remember the name of it now. We took that highway in summer back to Toronto. It was so pretty and I imagine it would be glorious this time of year.
You and Billy Joel always put me in a "New York state of mind". That first photo made me swoon.
ReplyDeleteOh... that autumn color is looking so lovely there, as is the architecture! The schlepp bag is such fun! :o) Happy Week, Pat ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteI can see why it would be one of the most desirable neighborhoods, Pat. It is gorgeous!! Love those tree lined streets.
ReplyDeleteMiss it very much.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Photos! Fall in Park Slope, Brooklyn is very beautiful. Nothing like that here in SoCal where I live :-(
ReplyDeleteTake care and have a nice day :-)
Thanks for your recent comment on My Blog
So beautiful! The leaves are mostly on the ground here now :(
ReplyDeleteI can really see the reference to Hopper's painting in those shots!
I can see that you are also enjoying great fall colors!
ReplyDeleteI love Park Slope! Whenever we visit our daughter in NY we go there. Beautiful photos, Pat!
ReplyDeleteBrooklyn in fall looks most beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI quite like the 'schlepp' bag in the window. Appropriately named!
what a beautiful sight... i love the amazing colors of fall!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful neighborhood Pat. The trees have the most wonderful colors and I love all the different houses.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week.
I facebooked with old friends from 1970s, and we talked about our trip to New York. This must have been some of the sights we saw.
ReplyDeleteHi Pat,
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful artistic eye for photographs. You can make things we might otherwise pass by look so beautiful and interesting. I love coming here and seeing things through your lens.
My daughter has been living in Cambridge now for two years and I STILL miss visiting her in Brooklyn. She lived in Winsor Terrace so we walked through Park Slope often. I have to say I don't find Cambridge as pretty...but don't tell her:)
ReplyDeleteStunning photography Pat! You're so good, you have a great eye!
ReplyDeleteI'm coming to NYC in the spring with daughter in tow and am going to Brooklyn and will nag you - even though you're busy about where I must go! (Don't you hate windstorms - they take out autumn leaves and spring lilacs in one blow!)Beautiful photos as always, Pat. You draw me in.
ReplyDeleteThose are amazing beautiful colors, the colors of the buildings mimic the autumn leaves!
ReplyDeleteAmazing Autumn colours.
ReplyDeleteSydney - City and Suburbs
One more comment after 65 is probably not important but I will anyway. The colours are magic and never seen here in Brisbane. The house and blocks all look very well cared for, neat, tidy and colourful. A beautiful suburb.Do people own cars or use public transport? If they have cars where do they park them?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors of Brooklyn ~
ReplyDeleteand you capture them so well.
come join our traveling tuesdays at the WhistleStop :-)
What gorgeous bursts of color in these photos. A playground for the eyes.
ReplyDeleteBella Vida by Letty
Have a great day.
Oh my, so much gorgeousness!!! Brooklyn is so picturesque, I would so love to see that in person, it would be awe-inspiring, I know. The brownstones that I have read about over and over in different books are really beautiful, aren't they. I especially like the one with the large double doors.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, Pat!
Hugs, Cindy
What gorgeous captures for the day, Pat! Such incredible autumn colors and I love the tour around Brooklyn that you've taken us on! Delightful! Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
Such beautiful photos you choose to share! Thanks. I love the fall colors much more than the summer ones, I find them warmer. They made me think about home, fireplace and hot chocolate....
ReplyDeleteI visited that side of Brooklyn and it was wonderful...hugs, Flavia
ReplyDeleteBeautiful trees and houses. A truly beautiful area.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely mini walk you have given us with this post. Loved all of your photos. The little park with all of its blue is so romantic and appealing. Would love to sit there with a cup of tea and a good book. genie
ReplyDeleteLove all the beautiful fall colors, Pat, and the wonderful architecture. We don't have brownstones here or blocks of beautiful apartment houses. West coast architecture is very different. Great post.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful neighborhood, Pat. Love seeing the fall colors! I love this season!
