Vee, at the delightful blog A Haven For Vee has decided after the success of her first Note Card Party event in March to make it a permanent event that will happen the third week of every month! What participants are asked to do is choose four photos that we previously published on our blogs in a prior blog post, choosing photos that we think would make beautiful or interesting note cards. Last month I shared special New York City photographs.
The photos I chose this month are beautiful photos a good friend's daughter, Lauren, took for me of the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC, which I published on this post in April of 2009.
Try as I might, I never seem to be able to make it down to Washington DC to attend this festival, although it has been almost a life long dream of mine to see it! Even when my son was an undergraduate at a university in Washington DC for four years and then lived and worked there for two years afterward, something always seemed to come up during the month of April to keep me in New York. Thankfully, Lauren, who now lives and works in DC, was kind enough to share her photos with me, and I thought you would all enjoy seeing them again. I think they would make gorgeous note cards, don't you?
I'm adding this post to Pink Satuday on Beverly's blog How Sweet The Sound
Sending you a big wish for good luck - you will see them in person one day! xo
ReplyDeleteGood Luck Pat.....I would like to see them too!! We will some day!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning note cards. I can definitely see them used in that way. How odd that you've not made it where you are so close. I have been there just after their peak. It was still lovely with blossoms all over the ground. It was away back in 1968. I'd like to make it when they're just blooming. Unlikely, but a gal can dream.
ReplyDeleteShe is a wonderful photographer, the second and third are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteWe used to live in the DC area and have been to the Cherry Blossom Festival. Quite a beautiful sight to see, for certain!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful, I have visited WDC but never in spring at the National Cherry Blossom Festival, I must put this on my to do list. Hope you will get to attend next year. Thanks for sharing.

Fun pics Pat, love the great colors in the last one:@)
ReplyDeletePat - You've got to fulfill that wish someday. Lovely photos. Did you know that Newark's Branch Brook Park has more than 4,000 cherry blossom trees? their big bloomfest is this Sunday, April 22.
ReplyDeleteIt must be so wonderful to see these cherry blossoms in person! I hope you get to do that next spring. Beautiful photos. Pamela
ReplyDeleteI have visited D.C. many times and have never managed the cherry blossoms. Sigh. It's on my wish list also! I think it's the hundredth year with these trees that were brought from Japan? Did I read that somewhere? Meanwhile, the photos just bring happiness.
ReplyDeleteSuch gorgeous photos! Visiting D.C. during cherry blossom time is definitely on my bucket list. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures make beautiful note cards.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!!
Good luck, Pat, I hope you get there next year! Beautiful shots, would make beautiful notecards!
ReplyDeleteThese truly are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThese would make a wonderful set of note cards!! I especially like the one with the Jefferson Monument framed by the cherry blossoms! I'd love to see this in real life one day, too!! Pat, thank you for your prayers!! Thank you! t.
ReplyDeleteI so wanted to go to the festival this year because of the special anniversary and exhibits. Didn't make it! Still on my list though.
ReplyDeleteHappy wedding soon.......Sarah
I do hope you are able to make it next year. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you ;).
ReplyDeleteI have always heard that this is a beautiful event and your photos prove it! They would definitely make gorgeous note cards.
Oh, how neat. I'd love to participate. Thanks for posting a link to the blog.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you! sandie
ReplyDeleteThis would make a lovely set of cards Pat. If you had made plans to go to Washington this year you may have missed the flowering as they were ready earlier than expected.
ReplyDelete♥, Susan
My brother and his wife went to Washington a few weeks ago and said it was amazing to idea see. I like the notecard idea.
ReplyDeleteWe went to the Cherry Blossom Festival in DC one year--several years ago... I want to go back now that we have better cameras!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos, Pat... I love them ALL.
Hugs,
Betsy
Definitely a good festival to have on a must see list. I've never seen the Cherry blossoms in D.C. either.
ReplyDeleteHi Pat, didn't Vee have a great idea! I've been making note cards out of my photos for years! I should look through a few of my favorites and link up!
ReplyDeleteYou have to see the Cherry blossoms, you won't be disappointed, I saw them years ago!
Have a Wonderful Wednesday!
The cherry blossom photos are stunning. We have lots of them here, and they bloom at different times - now it's like the sky is raining pink petals!
ReplyDeleteStunning!!!! WOW- and against that amazing crystal blue sky- sheesh, just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful for note cards, definately!! Well done!
I hope you can get there in person one day. You are lucky to have someone to share their photos so you can feel like you are there! Hope you get there next year!

STUNNING April sweetness... those trees look like cotton candy! And your images/compositions are wonderful, Pat. Vee's card party is a great idea...and monthly too--WOW, very fun! We often say, "This year we'll get over to D.C for the cherry blossoms..." We're still working on making that happen too... LOL! Luck to us all! ;o) ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteEven the BBC reported on this year's National Cherry Blossom Festival cos it was that spectacular! Oh I do hope you get to go next year Pat! Yay!
ReplyDeleteI love love love these pics - love how the blossoms take centre stage framing these iconic buildings! Take care
x
What is not to love about the beautiful cherry trees??
ReplyDeleteHugs .... Marilyn
I have not seen the cherry blossoms in DC either. I've been thinking about going to the west coast to see the cherries bloom in Oregon! Wonderful selection for Vee's party. Can't beat the gorgeous cherry blossoms.
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful. I love cherry blossoms.
ReplyDeleteThe Blossoms of Washington, DC ~ a lovely note card collection for April!
ReplyDeleteThe annual cherry blossom festival is happening in Vancouver right now. I have never been. Maybe next year I will take in the Vancouver show...and you will make it to the DC one...and we will compare notes!
Hi pat, they make a lovely set for note cards. I hope you make it to DC next year!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos for the Note Card Party, Pat! I have never seen the cherry blossoms in person...another thing to add to my bucket list. *sigh*
ReplyDeletehugs,
Rett
Would indeed make lovely postcards. I hope to one day see the festival as well. These photos were a great glimpse of it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteKeep trying to get there to experience it in person. It is as wonderful as they say. I was there for a job training, it was snowing then two days later the temps soared to 80 and POW! The blossoms erupted in a day. The city nearly shut down so cherry blossoms could be enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteIt's tricky to attend a blossom festival at exactly the optimum moment! Traditionally our cherry blossoms are in full bloom around Mother's Day. They are very early this year! In fact, I'd better get out there with my camera!
ReplyDeletei've always wanted to see the cherry blossoms. just lovely. you have me there. i would definitely love them for sure. (:
ReplyDeleteThese are so lovely!
ReplyDeleteDefenitely all beautiful for postcards Pat. The blossoms are so beautiful.

Hi Pat,
ReplyDeleteThese certainly would make great note cards, with a theme of Washington, D.C. during cherry blossom time. The blossoms are truly gorgeous; I'd love to visit at that time of year, too. I also love the views of the Washington and Jefferson Monuments across the Potomac River. Great pics!
Thanks for visiting my blog and have a great day!

Beautiful blossoms! I think I was there one year for the cherry blossoms, and it had been unexpectedly windy and kind of blew them off the trees....
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind comments on the porch photos....we ARE in PA!
Hi Pat,
ReplyDeleteI do hope you make the Cherry Blossom festival soon but I have to say, even though I live less than 2 hrs by car, I've not made it myself! This year they bloomed excessively early but every year it seems to vary a bit. C'est la vie! I do love the shots your friend took though especially looking over the basin, very majestic. Thanks so much for your very sweet comments on my blog. My husbands family was from Brooklyn and he remains very interested in hearing about the area so we're on board as Followers now :)

Hi Pat--We should put this on a joint calendar--I have always wanted to go too, and we spend quite a bit of time in DC, but I have missed the blossoms every year! These are very nice pictures--at least we can enjoy these. Linda
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful...what a beautiful site to see!!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, these make gorgeous note cards! I do hope that you are able to see the cherry blossoms some day. It was also a dream of my mother's, and one year she and my sister and I made the trip and were able to see them first hand. What a sight to behold! Now my 18-year-old daughter would like to see them, so I may be making the trip again...
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cheryl
What gorgeous images of the cherry blossoms in the Tidal Basin! They are picture perfect!
ReplyDeleteYvonne
It was pure coincidence that I managed to be in DC one year during the beautiful cherry blossoms...it was breath-taking!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is a beautiful spectacle. You'll just have to keep it on your bucket list. When hubby retires you may have more time.
ReplyDeleteIt would be amazing to see in person! The dogwoods in NC have been spectacular this year. Beautiful cards, my friend!
ReplyDeleteOh my, those trees would be spectacular to see in person! How beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these pics, Pat~ I've only been to DC once for 2 days...never left the hotel/conference, so I only saw of it what I could see from the taxi window! Hope you get to go next year. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Beautiful photos. Maybe next year we'll have your photo 'take' on the apple blossom scene in D.C. :)
ReplyDeleteFinally got over my photo linking problems Pat. Skye switched me to Google Chrome and all is now well. It'a s short cut and not a permanent fix, so we'll see how it goes. So far so good.:)
