The frost was on the pumpkin here this weekend, or at least it was on the grass of the local park I walk in every morning, as you can see by the photo above. When the temperature begins to dip towards freezing in autumn, I begin to crave comfort foods like stews and homemade soups. I usually prepare my own, but lately, I have been busy getting my house in top notch condition to sell, and then doing house showings. This is why I was very excited when Bertolli foods offered to send me four wonderful new frozen entree products to try and review!
The people at Bertolli sent two of their newest frozen Meal Soups for 2 -- Ricotta and Lobster Ravioli in a Seafood Bisque, and Italian-Style Wedding Soup. If you remember I reviewed their Meal Soup for 2 lines at an exclusive New York City event on this post, and these two new soups are a wonderful addition.
The other two frozen entrees Bertolli sent for me to try was their brand new Classic Meal for 2 Risottos. If you have ever made risotto at home you know it takes a lot of attention as it has to be stirred frequently, and the recipe's liquid has to be added frequently as it cooks to keep it creamy. I wondered if a frozen product would taste as good as something that requires so much attention when it is homemade.
The Bertolli Classic Meal for 2 Garlic Shrimp Risotto is Italian style rice and shrimp with zucchini, yellow squash and red peppers in a white wine cream sauce flavored with a hint of garlic. I was very impressed with the crispness of the vegetables. They tasted as if they were chopped fresh, minutes before. Plus, the amount of succulent tender pink shrimp in the risotto was generous and they were of good size. The rice was tender and creamy and I was impressed with the quality. This was truly a risotto that would have taken me more than an hour to prepare, yet it cooked up in my skillet in about 12 minutes!
The Bertolli Classic Meal for 2 Roasted Chicken Risotto was outstanding! The generous chicken pieces in the risotto had a savory slow-roasted taste and the Parmesan cream sauce was filled with chunks of portobello mushrooms and slices of crisp asparagus. It truly was of fine gourmet quality, very rich and creamy and delicious! It was a hard choice, but I think this was our favorite of all four entrees!
Thank you, Bertolli, for saving me time at this very busy time of my life, and treating me to your delectable new frozen entrees. I am going to fill my freezer full of them to make sure I have a quick and delicious meal in a flash whenever I need one!
Bertolli has been kind enough to offer to send four coupons to a lucky reader of my blog, that can be redeemed in your store for Classic Meals Entree for 2, or Meal Soups for 2, of your choice and combination. I will choose the winner by using the random number generator at Random.org from all the comments I receive below on Sunday, October 14, 2012, and I will announce the winner on this post. Just tell me what Bertolli products you think you'd like to try first! Good Luck!
*10/15/12: The winner of the Four Free Bertolli Entree Coupons as picked by Random.org was # 34. Counting down from all entries I saw there was one double entry, which I did not count, so the winner was Lisa of Grandma's Briefs. Congratulations, Lisa! Please send your name and address to me by e-mail and I will send them to Bertolli, who will mail out the coupons to you! Thank you to all who entered. I do hope you will try these new entrees very soon as I think you will enjoy them as much as I did.
I have to go with the Roasted Chicken one - especially after seeing it had asparagus!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry I haven't been around in a while - but, I'm back now!
Pat ...I had the garlic shrimp risotto just this past week. I really liked it and I'd definitely get it again. I added in a few extra shrimp that I had purchased on my trip to the grocery store.. I do like their frozen food.

Hi Pat, isn't that nice of Bertolli! I would definitely say The Ricotta & Lobster Ravioli in a Seafood Bisque Soup Meal Soup for 2 would be my 1st pick!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to me! LOL!!!
Pat, I really enjoy the Bertolli frozen entrees. I would be happy with any one of these soups. The lobster ravioli really sounds good, but I love Italian wedding soup, too! xo (P.S. Belated happy anniversary to you and Vinny)
ReplyDeleteThe soups sound great Pat! It's been cool here too, I lit my first fire last night. I'd love to try the roasted chicken one. Have a great week:@)

x
I continue to pray for the sale of your home when God puts you on my mind Pat! Looking forward to see your adventures while the realtor is having open house!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that your home hasn't been snatched up. That's what we used to hear about NY properties all the time...that one had to be quick. Different times now, of course. Still wishing you a quicker sale than you think it might be.
ReplyDeleteWe tried this brand when you first mentioned it and we loved it. It's not something that we should eat often because of diet restrictions, but it certainly is convenient and delicious.
I'd love to try the roasted chicken risotto. I could eat some right now! I posted some pics of some of my family today...hope you can stop by my blog and 'meet' them! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteAm I still eligible? I loved the soups last time, I'd love to try the chicken risotto! Just saw on the news that Colorado already got some snow. Good luck, keep your shovels :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know he had any soups or food out!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a wonderful anniversary.
That food all looks so yummy. I am on such a retricted diet right now I can't eat anything. :-(
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear your house is showing. That's good news. I hope you get a buyer soon, Pat.
Glad you had a good anniversary, too. Sending you hugs across the miles. I wish it would cool off here. My AC is running full blast.
Love you...
XO,
Sheila
Glad you had a lovely anniversary!
ReplyDeleteI hope your home sells quickly for you. The open houses will surely help.
The meals look delicious! It's always fun finding something new to try.
I didn't know they had risotto, too!
ReplyDeleteI would totally love trying that!
I will have to look at the store for it this week!
Glad your anniversary was sweet!
I'm thinking about the roasted chicken risotto. I love Bertolli products.
ReplyDeleteSeems like the housing market has picked up a bit-- at least here ... and with such great interest rates I'd think that would be an asset to your house sale, which I hope happens soon! May you be surprised!
That looks so yummy!! I want to have those lol!
ReplyDeleteKim,USA
Pat, I may have to try those soups. They looked very good. I know you must be so busy. I wish you the best. Smiles, Susie
ReplyDeleteMeals like this are perfect for when you're strapped for time in the kitchen (like preparing a house for sale!). They all sound delicious, Pat.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for a speedy sale!
Pat - I'm usually skeptical of these kinds of packaged foods, but on your recommendation I plan to try that ricotta and lobster ravioli bisque.
ReplyDeleteI love fall and all the comfort foods that go with it. Soup is one of my favorite foods!~ Yummy!
ReplyDeleteThey all look so good. I think the soups look homemade, not watery like canned soups often do. I think I'd like to try the roasted chicken and either of the soups.
ReplyDeleteBelated anniversary wishes to you and your hubby. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for your home to sell soon. Those showings get old fast. I look forward to seeing your new home in Colorado.

We just had our first frost and I also turned to comfort foods. Only haven't been home to create them! Just looking at Bertolli's soups made my heart yearn.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping your house sells soon...though I rather like the idea of you being out-and-about in the city while the 'open house' is happening. You take us to the most interesting places.
ReplyDeleteThe soups look amazing!
Hi Pat, these Bertolli meals sound delicious. I would like to try the Seafood bisque and the Garlic Shrimp Risotto. Thanks for sharing your reviews.

ReplyDeleteBoth soups look delicious, Pat. I'm not sure which one I would enjoy the most--so guess I'll have to try them both...

Aw, I missed your anniversary post. Will read it right after this. Those Bertolli meals look pretty yummy. I've tried the meals, so I'd be interested in trying out the soups. Nothing beats soup on a chilly evening. (I made a pretty good enchilada chicken soup last night for dinner.)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the Open Houses. That's how we managed to sell our former home as the beginning of our national economic mess was just starting out. You'll be in Colorado soon, I have no doubt!
I would love to try the Roasted Chicken Risotto. We eat a lot of chicken:)
