Colorado has beautiful skies! The entire state, even the flat plains, are at a high elevation. The average elevation is 6,800 feet above sea level, so it seems the skies are bluer to me because of that fact. Even the skies full of impending weather change seem more intense. The photo above is the view my son and daughter-in-law see from their new home's front window. The storm clouds that brought us snow a couple days ago were beginning to accumulate that day.
This is the brilliant blue sky that Colorado usually sees over 300 days of the year!
Did you know that we get more sunny days than Miami, Florida or San Diego, California?
Even the clouds look whiter against such a deep blue sky!
I couldn't resist showing the angel-shaped cloud I saw one afternoon, one more time.
Towards dusk, the clouds begin to take on a beautiful glow from the setting sun.
They take my breath away!
Flaming clouds light up the sky at night.
Even stormy days are beautiful here when they are framed by such scenery!
The foothills seem made for snow.
The blue and white combination looks so clean and refreshing.
A snowy day here is so silent and peaceful.
One last photo I am proud of. It is a view of Denver from the highway. Look at all the puffy and swirly clouds in the sky that day! I took this photo from a moving car (no, I wasn't driving!). It may not be the familiar New York City skyline that I saw so often and loved, but it's my new home. I love it for the love of family it holds and the future it represents for them. It's a big sky for big dreams! I'm glad to be a part of them!
Your photographs are stunning Pat, I love the sun lighting up the clouds but my favourite is the snowy one it seems to be so much whiter and crisp.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photos. I am so glad you are settling in very nicely and loving it. Your kids and grandkids are a big plus with that. xo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, Pat. Absolutely gorgeous skies!
ReplyDeleteWow! Just wonderful photography. Sometimes the sky is the story.
ReplyDeleteAll the colors seem much brighter at the high elevation. Mr. Dragon used to tell me it was because I was hallucinating -- not enough oxygen! :D :D :D Lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! Colorado is a beautiful place. I honeymooned there. (A long time ago):)

Oh my these are fabulous, the angel is my favourite. Take care, Jen
ReplyDeleteWonderful sky shots, Pat! Your beautiful Colorado sky is much like that in Alberta - no matter what was going on with the temperature, we nearly always had blue skies when we lived there.
ReplyDeletePretty pics with gorgeous colors Pat-enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteMore stunning photos Pat! These take my breath away, the clouds, and I see the angel too. The sunsets and the snow and I love the skyline. You do live in an amazingly beautiful state. Keep the photos coming........

ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos, Pat. I love the one with the blue sky and the reddish rock formations reaching up into it. Oh, and the angel - so sweet!
ReplyDeleteJust magnificent! I have friends in the Denver area and we visited them a couple years ago. It also gets mighty hot there, being a mile closer to the sun. I was surprised how hot it was in August.
ReplyDeleteBreathtakingly stunning - it never ceases to amaze me when I see the beautiful skies from our country and around the world. I had a hard time picking a favorite - but I have to say - the one with the yellow/gold clouds lit from below was unbelievable. Glorious skies - enjoy your family and new surroundings.
ReplyDeleteWow, what stunning skies Pat. i love the flaming sky and the winter snow scene, in particular.
ReplyDeleteLovely skies, Pat!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely breathtaking views in your pictures, Pat! Do you still have snow cover?
ReplyDeleteWhat a different and lovely spot you are in. To be with your family makes it even more special, I'm sure. I thought about you yesterday when I watched Ina Garten make a nostalgic (and delicious) trip to the area of Brooklyn where she lived as a child.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
You have a big sky there with all the open foot hills and uncluttered areas. What beautiful photos and I love the sentiment you wrote with the last one. You sound very content.
ReplyDeleteColorado is such a beautiful state. I have been several times and we have contemplated moving there for my husband's job, but never did. *sigh*

XO,

300 days of sun!?!?! Colorado here I come! I love sunny days and blue, blue skies. I love seeing the sky, it's my mountains. I know some love seeing the mountains, I love seeing the sky. Anytime we get out of the city limits here, because we live on the edge of the prairies, I am mesmerized by the huge sky that I can see. I love the sky and all of your photos are fabulous! I enjoyed seeing them very much.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cindy
Those are amazing blue skies! Your angel cloud is pretty impressive. I love when I see something so clearly in the clouds.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cloud photos!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you'll be able to photograph some of those eclipses, meteor showers, and shooting stars the rest of us never seem to be able to find!
such gorgeous pictures. I think we see more gray skies than anything else around here
ReplyDeleteGorgeous skies! I've been meaning to thank you for posting about Bangs recently. It was very helpful, and I love bangs.
ReplyDeleteOh Pat, what positively glorious skies! What inspiration. Thanks for the wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteYour cloud photos are lovely...yep, San Diego gets lots of foggy cloud cover, especially in June during the 'June Gloom' all of So Ca experiences. When we travelled through New Mexico we saw the most amazing clouds- so enormous and 3D! We get too many ocean or desert breezes to have many clouds, and rarely are they huge and fluffy- so when they are we crank our necks in the car saying, "ooh, look at that one!" lol
ReplyDeleteYou really did take some fantastic
ReplyDeletephoto's of the sky. My Mom and I used to lay on the grass and look for images in the clouds. That Angel is a winner. Great color contrasts. I am so happy for you being close to
your beautiful family.
Be well. yvonne

ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you're enjoying your new home!
I'm working on Paul to move there. He wants four seasons. Fine. I want four seasons where one season doesn't last 6 months! Oh the skies!
ReplyDeleteQuesto tuo cielo, รจ veramente grandioso.
ReplyDeleteI colori fanno rimanere senza fiato !
Magnifiche immagini... grazie di farci vedere il tuo mondo attraverso queste foto.

One word, Pat: GORGEOUS! I love the cloud photos. Coincidentally, I did a cloud post too recently. :)
ReplyDeleteBlue skies shining at me, nothing but blue skies do I see...Maybe this was written about Colorado. :)
I have never taken for granted the beauty surrounding my home state! I caught a beautiful shot of the firey sky one morning when I dropped my honey at the bus . It took my breathe away! I love living here even though I am tired of all the snow. Sigh!
ReplyDeleteThanks always for sharing!
