Last year, in early October, my husband and I decided to take a weekend trip to one of our favorite places to celebrate our anniversary--Steamboat Springs in northern Colorado. The drive there is always so beautiful and we were happy to see there was still much beautiful autumn color.
One exciting part of the journey is traveling over Rabbit Ears Pass, at an elevation of 9,426 feet.
We also love the natural setting of the Strawberry Park Hot Springs! This is where we spent most of the weekend, soaking in the delightfully warm to hot mineral water that trickles out the mountain into natural pools. The pool closest to the source of the spring is the hottest and the pool furthest away is the coolest.
It truly is a gorgeous setting to enjoy!
This year reservations are required to keep the social distancing rules and masks must be worn except when one is in the water for coronavirus precautions.
At the end of the day, we dined and celebrated at one of our favorite restaurants in Steamboat Springs, a contemporary French cuisine restaurant called Harwigs that has been in existence for 40 years! As you can see we dined on oysters on the half shell, escargot in red wine garlic butter sauce, and entrees of crispy duck breast, and we had caramel ice cream over chocolate brownie dessert with fruit on the side--everything superb! We always make a point to dine at Harwigs and the staff treats us with extra special attention.

This Monday will be our 46th wedding anniversary! We had hoped to celebrate in southwestern Colorado at another natural hot spring setting at the Pagosa Springs Resort and Spa, but we canceled that as we felt it was not the best time to be traveling during this pandemic. We are now both in the "must be very careful" age of life. Instead, I plan to make a very special dinner and we will enjoy a special red wine we purchased in Napa Valley on a trip we made a few years ago. Life is good and we have been blessed. It was fun to reminisce about last year's anniversary trip that I never had a chance to blog about, and hopefully, by next year's anniversary, we will be traveling again.
Stay happy, safe, and healthy!

Happy Belated Anniversary! How interesting that you have so many posts in waiting. I think I could enjoy sitting in the hot springs...perhaps even close to the spring. ☺️
ReplyDeleteGreat happenings. Beautiful Colorado and a blessed anniversary.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary and many blessings for more years to come!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to you both! What wonderful memories from last years celebration. (I’m making a note of that restaurant). Being at least a decade+ ahead of you in anniversaries and age, we totally understand the need to forego travel even for very special occasions right now. And also share your hope for a not-too-distant future when such things are once again possible.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary . Each year is a milestone worth celebrating . Great memories of last year.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to you two. I know you can't do what you want so you are doing what you can this year. I really love reading about you guys. You are getting the most that you can from life and that is great. We'll probably never meet but you two have really enriched and inspired me.
ReplyDeleteNext year!!
What an amazing anniversary! And this year is just as amazing!
ReplyDeleteI do so love Colorado! I have visited Steamboat Springs so many times - mostly in the winter on ski trips. And Pagosa Springs was a favorite for summer and fall trips. Back in another life, I would drive up to Colorado at least 4 times a year. My favorite song was the one they sang at Flying W Ranch in Colorado Springs - If God doesn't live in Colorado, I guess that's where he spends most of his time. I agree!!!
Gratulation... happy anniversary, enjoy your great Wedding day.

Pat - how much things have changed since last October!!! It's hard to imagine people lounging about in hot springs these days. I have been to the ones in Glenwood Springs .... Happy Anniversary to you and your hubby! I hope you don't mind my saying - hair styles may have changed, but your husband still sports that fabulous mustache! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
