The weather channel on TV was showing this news all day on Friday.
They were calling the storm "Xylia."
They were right!
It rained on Friday and some of Saturday, and we thought maybe the storm wouldn't be as bad as predicted, but then the snow began falling....and falling and falling!
Sunday morning we had constant howling winds and about 18 inches of snow had fallen in our area. It is not over, as it is going to keep snowing until sometime Monday.
My husband worked hard clearing snow off our driveway even using a powerful snowblower. I helped out doing what I could with a shovel. Thankfully, our power has stayed on and we were inside our home safe and warm most of the day.
I took this video early Sunday morning just to show how hard the wind was blowing. The storm was later officially declared a blizzard by afternoon.
We enjoyed hot chocolate after shoveling the snow.
I simmered pork tenderloin in my slow cooker on low all day. It was stewed in tomatoes with onions, celery, carrots, garlic, bell peppers, zucchini, garden squash, snap peas, butter beans, mushrooms, and spices. I also made cheesy polenta and served the stewed vegetables over the polenta with the pork served on the side. It was delicious-- just what we needed for a wintery day!
I hope you have sunshine and spring flowers where you are...I'm sure they will arrive here, too, someday, but right now snow is normal for "Springtime in the Rockies" and we are enjoying it all!
PS: My second covid vaccine went well and I had no other symptoms afterward except for a tender arm for a few days. It is such a relief!
In the meantime, my friends, stay healthy and safe!
That's a lot of snow! Gorgeous pics.
ReplyDeleteBrrrrrrrrrr! Pretty though. Your meal sounds like the perfect comfort food for a cold snowy weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! What a fun snow storm...but no fun to deal with it if you want to go anywhere. Thanks for the video! I'm glad you still had elec. That dinner looks so good!
ReplyDeleteWe've seen a lot about the storm on the Weather channel too! I like to look at a webcam for Vail too. Stay warm and safe. Glad your second shot went well!
ReplyDeleteOh my! That is a big storm. Sounds like a delicious dinner for warming up.
ReplyDeleteWow! We got a similar snow storm here.
ReplyDeleteYou really deserved the hot chocolate :)
March is the most untrustworthy month! One gets lulled into a false sense of security with warm temperatures and then boom! A weather event -- and boy, you hit the big one! That's seriously intense. Loved the little video, too. Well, you definitely know how to cook for the season! That food looks so warm and comforting, it would clearly be just the ticket after being outside handling all that snow -- or inside, watching it!
ReplyDeleteQuite a snowfall! It reminds me of our “blizzard” on this very same weekend in 1993! March snows never linger long where we are, though this one did create a bit of difficulty while it was with us! Hoping you’ve continued to keep power!
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling my other comment didn't go through, so if it did, feel free to delete this one. Every now and then blogger makes me fill out all the captchas that often I don't have to do -- you think the comment went through but unless you see the little box come back, I click out of the pop up and it's gone. New blogger issue!
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, I think I said March is the most untrustworthy month -- one day is beautiful and you think spring might be here and the next you are slammed with a blizzard. I loved your video. That's a ton of snow. And your dinner (and cocoa) are the perfect antidotes to cold hands and hungry tummies after all that outside work! It looks delicious -- the perfect winter comfort food. I hope it doesn't last too long!
I watched the evening news last night and was very surprised to see the blizzard you were under. Wow! Glad to hear you had power and ate and drank wonderful delicious stuff. Yummm.
ReplyDeleteI freely admit this would NOT be my favorite time of year in Denver. Upwards of 2 feet of snow where you are, and we're complaining with temps in the low 60's!
ReplyDeleteStay safe and warm!
Thanks for sharing at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2021/03/oh-tommy.html
Probably a hassle for you but so pretty in the photos
ReplyDeleteoh my... such a snowstorm mid March. nice and cozy inside with a cup of coco and yummy food. stay safe.
ReplyDeleteWow what a blizzard looks very pretty too :-)
ReplyDeleteThat food looks delicious I hope you saved me some heheh!
Have a blizzardtastic safe week 👍😷😷😷
Lovely snowy photographs.
ReplyDeleteYour food looks warming and very delicious.
So pleased your vaccination went well.
All the best Jan
Pat - wow. That's a lot of snow all in one go! I am glad that you kept power! It's tempting to wait to get out the snowblower once the storm is over, but that probably is not the best strategy. It looks like you made the best of it with delicious food and hot chocolate with SO MANY marshmallows! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of snow. Around here we sure could use something like that. it is very dry and we've had little snow all winter. i guess i had better be careful what i wish for, it could still come.
ReplyDeleteThat is my kind of weather.
ReplyDeleteThat was quite the snow storm. I know you are always thankful for the snow because of drought concerns. That meal looks very satisfying.
ReplyDeleteScary , Awful storm. Hope it’s easing off a bit. Our Colorado kids are out of the state right now. Your food looks so yummy. I am glad you got your second vaccine! You’ll be good to go when the weather clears up in a couple of weeks! Yay!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you fared well in the storm. Your dinner looks amazing and I can just imagine the delicious smells. How great to know that you've been vaccinated!
ReplyDeleteTwo feet of snow - feel sorry for you two having to clean that up, although it makes for stunning views! That's what I do: slowcooker recipes tastes the best on cold days:) It seems Mr. Winter makes his rounds from state to state this year! Hope the snow wont last long, Jesh
ReplyDeleteI really don't miss the snow at all - love the photos though!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly got a lot of snow. Good thing you didn't lose your power through it all.
ReplyDelete...I heard about it and we aren't out of the woods yet!
ReplyDeleteGosh Pat - That is one heck of a lot of snow. Thank God you didn't lose power, which has happened to me in bad storms from time to time. Your meal was the perfect food to prepare to warm up the body and soul.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a blizzard ~ glad you got cozy and warm and had delicious looking foods ~ Great photo and video too ~ thanks ~

My goodness, Pat, your blizzard isn't messing around. That wind is wicked! So glad to see you are safe and sound and enjoying delicious comfort food. Glad you are fully vaccinated. We are as well and other than a sore arm for us, too! Stay warm and cozy.
ReplyDeleteWe watched the weather reports as your area got dumped on! That's a lot of snow! Wish we had gotten some here in Utah. We need it so we won't be in a drought. (And your hot chocolate looks delicious. I love hot chocolate!)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this at our Party in Your PJs link party.
Beautiful photos! Glad you're all vaccinated now with no bad side effects. I've had one shot, just a sore arm here too
ReplyDeletePat, Having rain before the snow makes it so treacherous. I'm so glad the power stayed on. The hot chocolate looks delicious. Thanks for sharing and have a great week. Sylvia D.
ReplyDeleteSure glad you've gotten much-needed moisture, Pat. Your snowfall was more than ours here in the mountains though we keep getting a few inches more every day since the weekend. Bob's been out clearing it. I made a mostly veggie/bean soup this morning flavored by a tiny bit of ham. Since we get the final vaccine tomorrow, I wanted some meals on-hand in case I don't feel like cooking. I love using my heavy enamel dutch oven for soups. The house smells so good while they're simmering on the stove. Take Care!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a storm.
ReplyDeleteThe food you made looks so tasty. And it must have tasted extra good after being outside clearing snow.
Enjoy the week.
Hot chocolate is known to cure many ills--even those caused by shoveling snow! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you didn't lose power and were able to sit back and enjoy your hot chocolate from the warmth inside. Hopefully this was the last of the snow for 2021 for you. #HomeMattersParty
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! That’s a lot of snow but it does look beautiful! The seasons are finally changing here with sporadic temperatures and rain instead of snow. Happy almost spring!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you made it it through Xylia. I think the cold spell we had here was called "Snovid" unofficially.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely lots-of-marshmello weahter. It even looked like marshmellos!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard the name "Xylia" (such an unusual name!) but I did hear about the storm. Glad you are OK. The hot chocolate looks wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteBrrrr! Perfect to have hot chocolate and pork tenderloin in the crock pot which looks delicious by the way. Sorry there is so much snow to shovel.
ReplyDeleteWhen it's cold outside, you cook hot meals inside! I remember lots of snow from my Chicago area days, but I sure don't miss them!
ReplyDeleteThank you for being a part of 'My Corner of the World' this week!
Very scenic.
ReplyDeleteEek.. look at all that snow. I can't handle snow after February.
ReplyDeleteAll those meals look delicious.
Glad that you both made it through without any trouble. All of that snow is beautiful, but troublesome! Thanks for linking up.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you and Vinny could go out in that to move snow. You are heroes. I wish I lived in your house at meal time though.
ReplyDeleteThese storms of various kinds have been so challenging and in some cases devastating as though Mother Nature is angry with us....
