Many other homes in town were pretty Victorian style, from mansion size to cottage style.
Lake City has many historic older buildings dating back to the mining era.
There are also many charming stores and restaurants to explore.
The Lake City Town Park in the center of town had a couple of amusing planters hanging in the trees--click on the photo collage to enlarge it to see them better.
We enjoyed a delicious pizza for dinner at the Silver Slice Pizza Company--there was pepperoni under the folded crust!
We got up early the next morning to continue the final part of our drive on The Silver Thread Scenic and Historic Byway...more scenes from that drive will be in my next post.
We loved visiting Lake City and we promised ourselves that we would have to return for a longer visit one day in the future.
What a lovely town. I bet it is cold to live there in winter and a long winter. Great photos. You are having a very scenic trip.

What a beautiful area! My husband would love that he could explore using off road vehicles. We just got a Polaris side by side this spring and we just love it.
ReplyDeleteThe Silver Thread Scenic and Historic Byway region is not only beautiful, there is so much to do along the way.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeleteYes, T=there is a beautiful lake near Kake City! I mentioned it in the first paragraph of my blog post. It is Lake Cristobal and we passed it on our drive on our way to Lake City. We did not stop to drive down to it to take photos as it would have been an exit off of the scenic byway and we were really just doing the scenic drive this time as an excursion and on a time schedule
While driving on the Silver Thread Scenic Byway we only stopped in the town of Creede to eat lunch, and Lake City to eat dinner and sleep for the night before continuing on the byway to the end. Now that we saw both towns we definitely want to return for a longer stay and see more of them.
Lake Cristobal is the second largest natural lake in Colorado. It is well used for boating and fishing in summer and ice skating and ice fishing in winter
Pat
Wow - a real step back in time!

ReplyDeleteI love the mountain towns of the western USA. All the homes are beautiful and it looks like it gets really cold in the winter.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid we lived up in the White Mountains of Arizona. We used firewood to heat the house. Let me tell you it takes a lot of hauling wood, sawing, splitting, and stacking to keep the temperature up.
Wow Beautiful scenery with cloud kissed hills
