Happy Easter!

"Christ is risen; indeed, he is risen!"

That is the Paschal greeting my mother always greets us with on Easter morning in her mother's language of Ukrainian: " Hristos vosskress ; vo iss-tinou vosskress" -- Christ is risen; indeed, he is risen!

If you would like to learn how to say the Paschal greeting in another language, perhaps that of your ancestors, you can actually hear it pronounced in 250 languages here

Some interesting facts about Easter 2008 as explained by SNOPES:

Easter can occur from 3/22 to 4/25. This year Easter will be March 23. As you may or may not know, Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox, March 21. This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar.

Here's the interesting info about the date of Easter: This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives, and only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it earlier(95 years old or above). The next time Easter will be this early will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913.
The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now). The last time it was on March 22 was 1818.

The History Channel has some wonderful information about the Christian origins of Easter and a video to watch here.

I wish everyone a very beautiful and joyous Easter!

  8. Personally, I wish someone would arbitrarily decide when Easter is going to be...say the third Sunday in April...and hang with it. LOL!

What a beautiful photo. It says it all. Easter is the dawn of a grand new day.

Hope yours was a happy one!
