Prayer of Saint Francis of AssisiLord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen
Lovely prayer...when I was in Italy, I was fortunate enought to visit Assisi and spend time in the beautiful basilica where St. Francis is layed to rest. I visited his tomb and it was a humbling experience.

Hia Pat- i was taught that at a convent school as a song. It has a serene almost gregorian chant tune. Beautiful sentiments.

ReplyDeleteI love this prayer, too. St. Francis of Assisi also wrote some songs I love; "All Creatures of Our God and King" comes to mind. Thank you for this inspiration and for the lovely song, too!
