The upper floors house many well know corporations such as The Oxygen Network, MLB.Com, EMI Music Publishing, and The Food Network, etc.
Click to enlarge the photo above to see some of the antique advertisement slogans that decorated a door near the market entrance.
This is one of the views of the ground floor market which retains the industrial look of the 1913 factory.
Click to enlarge the mosaic above to see a few of the market's various stores such as Amy's Bread, Eleni's Bakery and Fat Witch Bakery, Ruthy's Bakery (her fun cupcakes are in the middle photo), The Lobster Place, Imports From Marrakesh, and Buon Italia imports.
To see a map of the market and a complete list of vendors click here. Chelsea market is open Monday -Friday from 7am to 9pm, and Saturday -Sunday from 10am-8pm. Individual stores inside the market, however, may have different hours of operation.
This is one of my favorite things to buy in Chelsea market at Sarabeth's Kitchen -- her legendary and award winning spreadable fruit marmalade, jams, and relishes. They are very flavorful, and as close to home made as you could hope to buy.
Above Chelsea, passing through the Chelsea Market building on the 10th Avenue side, is a new urban landscape called the High Line. This once abandoned elevated railroad track has recently been converted into a popular greenway park, and in my next blog post I'll take you for a walk along it.

Pat,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post. Despite living and working in Manhattan for ten years, I never went here. It looks wonderful, like one of those hidden treasures all over such a grand city. Happy Mosaic Monday.
Karen
I just love the Chelsea Market and all the great places to buy food there. The High Line was also a wonderful improvement to the area. It's so great to see everyone enjoying all the open space and greenery. another great post.

We visited Chelsea Market a few years ago when we were in NYC. I just had to see where the Food Network studios were, since I am such a big fan!
ReplyDeleteI really like the building and the architecture...it's quite unique. We had the most delish brownie from the Fat Witch Bakery:-)
I don't know if I'll ever get to visit NY City, but seeing it through your mosaics has been, well, scrumptious!
ReplyDelete:)

Another interesting place to visit in NYC! One could spend a lot of time there...just sampling. Lovely mosaic!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun place. I would love to visit the Chelsea Market. We haven't been to the city in years. Maybe we should put it on our "to do" list.
ReplyDeleteSam
Looks like you caught the vibrancy and energy of Manhattan! Love your pictures and mosaic. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!
Hi Pat! Profiting from today’s holiday – the 99th anniversary of the Republic in Portugal - I’m happy to have some more time to surf the net and enjoy your blog!
ReplyDeleteI've definitely to go back to NYC one of these days; it's always changing. Like Paris during the Mitterand era...
Blogtrotter is showing you Antalya. Enjoy and have a great week!
Great photos and thanks for showing us the Chelsea Market. I've been there a few times with my daughter and love it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting virtual 'tour' and lovely mosaic of tasty things. Thanks for your visit to my Mellow Yellow Mosaic at Small Reflections.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
A couple of my friends from a former job work in that building now. I lovvveee visiting them....but I would weigh a ton if I worked in that building around all the delish food! :-)
ReplyDeleteI was just in NY city and Long Island for a wedding this past weekend and was thinking of Chelsea Market. I gained 2 pounds in the 5 days as I never shut my mouth eating.
ReplyDeleteJoyce
What a cool building and such wonderful businesses in it! Love this post, Pat, and I want to be in NYC!!!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila :-)
So I have some stores you like and you have THAT!

ReplyDeleteBrenda
What a wonderful place! I've never been but it sounds fantastic.
ReplyDeleteSarabeths is the only jam I buy :)
Now that I visited your blog, I would love to visit the Chelsea Market. It is definitely my kind of place. I was given a jar of SaraBeths' fruit spread and I thought it was so good...another reason I want to visit this market. I am impressed with your mosaic.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words this morning on my blog.
Great photos and mosaic...I'll take the Elmo cupcake, thank you. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for this info. I saw this building featured in Rachel Ray's program. I am refreshing my memory because I used to work in NYC in the flat iron building. Those desserts in your mosaic are just tantalizing....
ReplyDeleteI've never been there but have a trip to the city next month. This will be on my list!
ReplyDeleteim such a foodie..and i live so close...I MUST GO!
ReplyDeleteI've never visited the Chelsea Market Pat, but I love the fact that it's housed in the old Nabisco factory and that parts of it still retain the look of the original building.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea to convert the old El into a greenway. Here in the South Rails-To-Trails has converted many old sections of railroad track into linear state parks. The New River State Park in Virginia is one example. They are quite beautiful and are used by hikers, bicycle riders and horseback riders. Motor vehicle traffic of any kind is prohibited. I'm so happy to see NYC make its own Rail-Trails and I can't wait until we can walk the High Line with you.
thank you Pat for the wonderful tour..wish I was there too. And a big thank you for your mail..we are all fine and good here, so kind of you to think of me. Hugs...M
ReplyDeleteSuch fun...such good things to eat, smell, see, hear... I gotta get there one day! This was scrumptious, Pat--thank you! Happy week, my friend :o) ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteGreat shots and perfect tour of Chelsea Market.
ReplyDeleteWe missed the Blessings of the Animals at St. John's. I didn't expect for the date to creep up so fast. Perhaps next year we can attend together?
Paz
What a cool place-I want to go in there and get a tour of Food Network, and of course, sample all the delicious foods that await!
ReplyDeleteI love Chelsea Market! Spent the day there with my son and close friend about 18 months ago. Be still my heart and thanks for the re-visit.
ReplyDeleteI love tours like this of a niehgbourhood. HAve never been to NY but have been to Chelsea market in London. It rocks.
ReplyDeleteMorning Pat, what a sweet indoor market. I love the way the High Line has been converted.
ReplyDeleteDoes the city of N.Y. know how good you are at promoting their city? I would make this high on my list on a visit there. Thanks for the visuals Pat, I could spend all day at Chelsea Market!
