My Good News...but will you still love me?

When my husband and I finally arrived in Colorado after driving for almost three days cross country from New York City, we were so happy and relieved!  We always did this trip by flying but this time we were bringing our daughter's long over-do bridal shower and wedding gifts out to her. We stayed at my daughter and son-in-law's house for the week, as they have a very comfortable guest room in their suburban home.

We were also excited to see our son and daughter-in-law and our two grandsons! There were lots of hugs and kisses, stroller rides for the baby, ice cream cones and ices for my oldest grandson, lunch out with my daughter and lots of love given to all the assorted pets my children own. (You can click on the photo collages to see them in a larger size)

We were able to attend the colorful annual 2012 Dragon Boat Festival at Sloan Lake in Denver, where my older grandson was brave enough to pet a snake from the Denver Zoo.

My daughter treated her father and me to a couple of hours of horseback riding followed by a chuck wagon steak dinner at the historic Elkhorn Lodge in beautiful Estes Park!  The Elkhorn Lodge was established in 1874 and is the oldest continually occupied building in Colorado! Our horses climbed a trail up small foothill mountain and we had beautiful views of the larger Rocky Mountains along the way. When I was a little girl I loved to watch Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, The Annie Oakley Show, Rin Tin Tin, Zorro, The Lone Ranger....all the wild west TV shows of the time.  My first ambition was to become a cowgirl, and on this trip, it came true for a few hours, and it was fun!

But the best thing of all that we saw while in Colorado, which is part of my good news, was this.....

My daughter and son-in-law holding their expected baby's sonogram photos!  Yes, their first child and my third grandchild is due in February!  We are so happy and excited and feel very blessed!

In fact, we were so excited that we searched for a house in the same community where my daughter's house is located, in the scenic valley above, and put a deposit down on one we fell in love with!  If all goes well my husband and I will be permanently moving to Colorado in the Spring of 2013!  Family is everything, and with a new grandchild on the way, we knew we could not delay making this move any longer.  We love Colorado and we're very happy and excited to be moving closer to our children and grandchildren

Which, of course, leads to my subject question.....will you still love me and visit my little blog in the future if I am no longer blogging about my life in New York City?  I hope so!  I still have lots more to blog about NYC until I do move and most likely I will be returning frequently to visit family and friends here so I will have a bi-city blog for a while afterward.  My life ahead will be certainly exciting!

  3. I had a feeling that I knew what you were going to say!
I absolutely understand why you'd want to be a present influence in the life of your precious grandchildren. My husband and I are thinking the same thing--well, once we have grandchildren. I've enjoyed my "visits" to NYC with you and look forward to "visits" in Colorado. Congratulations to the expectant parents!!

    Best,

  5. Congratulations on your expected grandchild Pat! Wonderful news.
    Beautiful photos!

I know that you surely must have taken I-70 through Missouri. At one point between ST Louis and Kansas City,(Wentzville) you were within 11 miles of our home!:-) You also passed by the exit at Kingdom City, for Lake of the Ozarks, our other home.

Hope you enjoyed your drive through Missouri and hoping you ignored all the billboards. This is a major complaint from us!! You have to get away from interstate highways to really see the beauty of our fair state.

  6. Oh Pat, I knew this time was going to come sooner or later!
So very happy for you and your husband, you need to be close to those precious grandchildren. Colorado is beautiful, you brought back memories of Estes Pk because that is were we went for our honeymoon years ago, in fact we did a horse ride similar to that with a pancake breakfast out on the range. Of course I will follow you,I know you'll have so much to talk about and show us in your new exciting adventure. So happy for you and your family Pat!!!

  7. Family is everything! I am so happy for you and your husband and would likely do the same thing to be near them all. Colorado is a gorgeous place. You are going to love the climate and the wonderful outdoor activities. They will turn you into a tree hugger, which isn't a bad thing :)

Congratulations to you and your family on both announcements!

I can't wait to see everything you'll show us from your new vantage point.

  14. Somehow, I knew this was coming. What a great thing to do - life is too short to live so far apart. Of course I'll still follow - you've introduced me to so much of your New York home and I've enjoyed it all. I'm looking forward to learning about Colorado now too. Who knows, once you're that far west, perhaps you'll take a trip up this way.
Congratulations to you and your daughter and SIL on this wonderful news!

  15. That is such exciting news! I'm sure you will make Colorado just as interesting and exciting as you have made New York City. You will then become a Western girl like I am.

I also loved those old Western television shows. I still sing the "Happy Trails" song when the occasion fits.

When you are closer, you need to visit Utah.

  23. While I love seeing NYC through your eyes Pat I visit your blog to see YOU! So whether you are in NYC or Colorado I'll be a follower of your blog. Congrats on your soon to be new grandchild and new home. That is so exciting. You will love being close to your family. I've always missed not being close to our families. We have discussed moving back to the midwest now that we are retired but we love our home here in SE PA. Maybe the next move. It's different for us we have no children just siblings. We were going to leave next week for an RV trip to Colorado (Hubby loves the Rockies and we haven't been there for years) but I'm in physical therapy for the bursitis in my hip. We're ready to explore after being home all summer. Have you noticed we like the same photos on Pinterest? It's so funny. Have a lovely day. It's going to be fun going on a new adventure with you.

  24. How exciting for you, Pat. Our grandsons are are not little anymore, but those years when they were small, we all lived in the same city, remains one of the happiest times in our lives. Good move! Wishing you only the best.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm so excited you get to do this....you can now become blogger extraordinaire about Colorado! Now that our youngest made the move out there I would love to see us all out there at some point as well.

  26. WOW what news I was looking at those delightful grandsons and thought I'm going to have one of those. CONGRATULATONS 2013 is going to be a good year for you new home and new baby what more could any one want. I'm sure your posts from Colorado will be just as colourful. You have given my hubby and I some good ideas for our forthcoming trip (7 days and counting) to NY.

  27. This is my second time trying to post a comment...I think I got too excited and erased it, lol.

What amazing news!!! Colorado is so beautiful and even more so when you're surrounded by the people you love. I'm so excited for you...plus, The Rockies will give you all new territory (literally!) to blog about.

    A huge congratulations, Pat!

  30. Congratulations! That is wonderful news!
Your blog doesn't matter, your family does.
No, Colorado won't have the same draw as NY, so you will have to change the direction . Maybe cooking or crafts!
You will miss NY, I give you a lot of credit!

  31. Your vacation pictures looked to me that you had an awesome time and saw lots of interesting places! lol

  32. I love this post for many reasons. First, what great collages of your Colorado fun. Such beautiful kiddos and kitties and dogs and family and fun. Love it. Second, CONGRATULATIONS on Grandbaby No. 3 being on the way. Thirdly, I will of COURSE still love your blog because I have no doubt you will teach me LOTS about my very own state, considering the lovely photos you take and all the research behind those places you shoot. A fourth reason I love this post: The mention of a bi-city blog. Made me chuckle for some reason. :-D
    Congrats on all counts!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Pat,
Congrats and good for you! Great that you are moving close to family, but New York will always be in your heart!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Will I still love you and still visit your blog? Of course! Because I agree: family is everything and you need to be in Colorado. And I'm sure you'll be blogging about Denver :)

We have the same goals but for a different city.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, you have been my personal guide around New York City, a place that I will probably not ever explore any other way myself. Yet, I cannot deny that there is actually nothing like being near family. Our three daughters are really spread out, though - one hour away, two hours away, and three hours away - so we are content to just stay put and encourage them to come by.:) I know you will be happy with your decision, particularly with the third grandchild coming early next year. I send best wishes to you as you make this change in your life. Oh, yes! I'll continue to read your blog. You have such a beautiful way of writing!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Such exciting new that you have a new grandbaby on the way! Super happy for you! Oh, and a big move to such a beautiful place where you will be so near to those loved ones! Really happy for you! And I will be visiting your blog just the same :)

Of course we love you.. I have blog friends from all over the world... When you move to CO, I'll get to learn more about that area from you... Yeah!!!!!

    Again, congrats.

I secretly hope my two girls will end up in Sydney together and we might be able to move there but we don't have that much time left so it may never happen. I'll enjoy your blog from wherever you are.

  80. You are so sweet Pat! I knew in my heart what your good news was! Double good news! A new grand baby and a new home and new city! You will enjoy Colorado because you know so much about it already! Littleton does have the light rail system so you will be able to get around easily. Then again NYC is not a place where I imagine you drive a car all the time! So the new experiences will be interesting for you and your husband! Our public transportation system is not as built up as NYC! But there are not as many people here as where you lived your whole life! It will be a wonderful journey for both of you! Best wishes and much love! Anne

  88. Welcome to the west! It will be different for sure but Denver has a lot of museums and other cultural arts for you to explore and enjoy. Estes Park is one of my favorite places in CO and I know you'll find excuses to go to lunch up there! I envy you being able to live close to your grandchildren. My grandson and upcoming granddaughter are in Virginia and this coast to coast grandparenting is no fun! I look forward to reading about all of your explorations in your new adventure because it's you and not the place that make the surroundings interesting!
