There is a popular saying in Colorado: "If you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes, it will change." In this case, it waited one day. We had around five inches of snow last Tuesday, with temperatures in the high twenties, and by Wednesday it had almost all melted and temperatures were in the sixties. More before and after views. The snowfall we had this month almost broke an all-time record for snow during April in Colorado! This enables me to take unusual springtime photos......
....... instead of pink blossoming trees, I can show icicles in April!
Or grass and snow at the same time!
Also, people wearing shorts while they jog in the snow!
The late snow also made for some fascinating critter sightings, as I spotted a red fox hunting for rabbits in my yard and a hungry squirrel that was dining on a chunk of ice.
The weather has been beautiful this weekend -- we hit the high seventies--but who knows what next week will bring? It certainly makes life interesting!
The robins have returned, so perhaps Spring may finally be here to stay! Thankfully, all this moisture has returned the Colorado reservoir levels to a more normal level and reduced the fire danger in this region, so, all in all, it's been a very good thing!

ReplyDeleteI'm sooooo relieved that the water levels are helped by the snow. Lessening the possibility of fire is SO important, and I'm thankful this is going to help you. I have no idea what I would do in snow. Is it grey during the winter, or is it bright with all the snow? I crave light, so that would be an important consideration for me. But this is really pretty, and I love all the wild creatures. I have always loved foxes and have a bit of a fox collection.

ReplyDeleteWhat a perceptive eye with your camera! And an amazing spring for your first in Colorado. I think the weather has been a bit crazy everywhere this spring. So many places have had snow. Hopefully the snow is gone and now you can see what spring is all about there! Great photos!
ReplyDeleteYou seem well suited to go through the wide and wild swings in weather taking it all in stride this way. I'd be a wreck so guess that ends any thought of my living in Colorado. It's way too bipolar for me! It is beautiful, though.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great shot of the robin. I know what you mean about stick around if you don't like the weather - it will change. We can get 30 to 40 degree temperature swings in our mountains and we aren't nearly the elevation that you are.

It must make it hard to work out what to wear each day. We have that saying about waiting for Melbourne. They don't get snow but they can have hot, cold, sun and rain all in one day.

Great photos --and welcome to Colorado. I remember in 2011 when we visited the Rockies for the first time toward the middle to end of June. We were surprised that there was still SO much snow on the mountains there!!!!!

As a Californian who watches the weather in the late summer and autumn with concern for high winds bringing wild fires, I am relieved to know Colorado precipitation is high enough to limit the fires for you. And the added bonus is the beautiful photos.

Wow, those are some extremes! We had a perfect Spring weekend for a change. I know it could still get cold, i remembergoing to help my mom when she got home from FL, and it snowed on May 3 rd!

We have also had wild and crazy weather. The tulips opened up a few days ago and now it is getting too warm for them. Do I wear a jacket or go without? One never knows this time of year. Your photos are beautiful, regardless of the weather.
ReplyDeleteThe same saying about the weather could easily apply to Houston this spring. While we haven't had snow we have had dramatic shifts in temperature. No complaints though as it will soon be summer and cool days will be but a memory.
ReplyDeleteThe weather here will probably see one more flurry of snow showers this week! Then I am hopeful Spring will settle in. I don't like the high 70 temps they are predicting, too much too soon. I would like Spring to stick around for a bit. My middle daughter has shoveled snow in shorts and her very pricey water proof winter boots! HaHa! I need to find that photo we took! I don't wear a heavy winter coat. I often have one in the car "just in case" but the temps are so mild. My doctor that I work for is from Wisconsin and he chuckles over the crazy snow storms that clear by lunchtime! HaHa!

ReplyDeleteYour post is the perfect Colorado changing weather experience. My friend lived there for several years and we experienced the crazy weather first hand on several skiing trips. I enjoyed your before and after photos soooo much. Also, the fox and squirrel pics. The squirrel eating snow is so funny and a great shot. Good job. He was hungry.

ReplyDeleteI love the Colorado motto. Our California coast changes daily. Yesterday it was beautiful, today it is overcast, who knows what tomorrow will be.
Well, maybe not 15 minutes over here next door to you in Utah, but a day or two! Last week freezing, this week 70s. I love the image of shorts and the snow!
ReplyDeleteWe also broke several records, for snowfall and low temperatures. We broke one for the lowest temperature on that date in 120 years!
ReplyDeleteThe fun thing about snow is that it changes the scenery so dramatically when it arrives and when it leaves it's another view altogether. I am just glad to see it go. Our yard is not pretty much snow free!

ReplyDeleteAfter NYC , all these animals must be culture shock. The photo of the green grass and snow is great. In Maine we have had a delightful week of 60-68 degree weather, bright sun and I am getting pruning and yard work done. I have a red fox too.

I remember being enchanted by the wildlife when I moved from Manhattan to MN. Even in St. Paul! Deer in the city. The photos are so lovely. But you can stop sending us your CO weather!
