Oh yes, as you can see in this photo, it was a bad hair day!
My husband and I were on vacation in Ireland when this photo was taken. We were on a tour of the beautiful Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland. It was a beautiful day, but windy. and we were about to walk over the very scenic Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge. You can read more about this bridge on this post, and also on a second trip to the same area, with a video, on this post.
This is a distant photo of the famous bridge..
...and a close-up. It is a thrill to cross it.
Here I am crossing the bridge, hanging on for dear life.
Enjoying the sights on the island as I sat recovering my nerves for the walk back over the bridge.
It was extremely windy on the journey back, and my hair was blowing in my face and eyes. It was not a good situation when you only have a narrow couple of boards to walk on and the bridge is swaying!!
We traveled on to the mystical Giant's Causeway -- you can read more about that on this post, and again three years later, with video, on this post. As you can see, it was another windy place!
The Giant's Causeway rock formations are very rare and unusual. It is a fascinating place to visit.
After this day of touring, this is how my hair appeared--a windblown, shaggy mess! Yes, I really should have worn a pretty bun that day. If you watch the video at the top of my post you will learn an easy way to make a stylish and sexy loose bun. I have to purchase the product the stylist in the video uses to control what she calls "the baby hairs," though in my case it would be called frizz! Do you think it would help?
My hair is too short for a messy bun, but I admire others who wear them.
ReplyDeleteYour windy Ireland photos are lovely, Pat. I think you'd need a lot of that hair wax to keep the frizz under control there.
No question appeared at the end of the video for me, but I'm in Canada and not eligible anyway - perhaps that part was blocked for out of country viewers.
Love seeing where you have been!! Your hair looks thick and luxurious! I am a fan of SHORT hair for myself but I love seeing long hair - on other people! My goal is EASY upkeep! Can't wait to see what you do. You would look good long or short. I LIKE your hair! Of course, my hair is STRAIGHT and we always like what we don't have!!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I wear my hair SHORT... I couldn't stand having it blow like that... BUT--I'd love to visit Ireland and walk across that bridge... WOW!!!! What an experience. Reminded me a little of the bridge at Grandfather Mtn when the wind was blowing fiercely.

Betsy
Good Afternoon Pat, Oooh, I don't think I could have walked across that swaying bridge, whether my hair was tied back or not. I am afraid of heights and I really don't think even the beautiful scenery would have enticed me across. I watched the video showing us how to create a lovely relaxed, stylish bun, but I have to say, that strong Irish wind would have created an even more relaxed style bun.
ReplyDeleteI could not enter the competition as nothing appeared after the tutorial.
I will be replying to your email later today.
Best Wishes
Daphne
It's called wind-swept hair, Pat, and it's pretty! So is Ireland!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila
Honey I wouldn't be worried about a bad hair day crossing that bridge, no way I would go across, I am a scard dee cat LOL
ReplyDeleteWell you have gorgeous hair - natural and full!! Yay!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll be able to do that fun bun myself! LOL!! But I like the idea of using wax to get one's "baby hair" in place!! Yay! take care
x
My hair is very very short, so buns are out of the question. Still, it's a great idea if you have longer hair. :)
ReplyDeleteOh the tricks of learning our own hair and its CRAZY moments. As my most recent grey hairs have come in I have had to discover new products to use to help with the CRAZY corkscrew hairs. At this point I use Argon Oil. My short style is sometimes a pain on windy days. I have just enough length to allow it to whip in front of my eyes totally blocking my view. I finally found one head band that works for me. And then I have my baseball cap wearing days. (c:
ReplyDeleteOh I identify with the hair , though yours is far prettier with more layers and that shade of auburn. Sigh. I watched the video. I doubt I have a chance since I answered "no." Ha! I doubt that that would have held up in the wind either!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if I could have walked that bridge wind or no wind.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing trip and you look CUTE! The wind blows here in Florida most every day! I have to wear my hair short! lol
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I just busted out laughing at seeing the video and then your next "REALITY" Shot :)
ReplyDeleteI spent about 50.00 over the last few months trying to find something that would hold my hair in a bun for more than an hour. Seriously. Every magic hair thingamajig on Amazon that I could find.
No success.
That bridge looks a bit scary. Thrilling is a nice word for it.
Ha! Fun post! :)
that does look like a fascinating place to visit. I think I would have been extremely nervous crossing that bridge.
ReplyDeleteAs for the hair, I think even in a loose bun mine would be a mess. I have seriously straight hair and even in a pony tail (for bad hair days) if it's windy it ends up flying out
Pat, what fun photos of your trip to Ireland. You are brave to cross that bridge in the wind. I would have been chicken. Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing. Now, I really want to go too.
ReplyDeletePat, how excellent that you crossed that bridge! Beautiful pics of Ireland!
ReplyDeleteHi Pat, you look like a very beautiful wild adventurous Irish lass! I think your windswept locks add to your beautiful photos :) Feeling comfortable with whatever style you choose is the answer I believe. It would take me a few practice sessions to achieve the sexy loose bun hairstyle! When I first stopped dyeing my hair I went and got a pixie haircut. At the same salon I purchased a small jar of hair wax called short sexy hair, Control Maniac. It did hold my hair in place! I'm not sure if it would of held that day in Ireland ;) Great post!
ReplyDeleteMargaret in B.C.
You are a brave woman, Pat! I'm so afraid of heights that I doubt I'd have made it across the bridge. Beautiful scenery there!
ReplyDeleteGreat story to lead into the video...and wonderful photos of Ireland!
ReplyDeleteI will join with the others and say I would have been just waiting and watching while you crossed the bridge. I think your hair looks wonderful in the last picture. I sure hope to go back to Ireland before too long but will stay away from the cliffs and the rope bridges!
ReplyDeleteyou did well getting back and forth across that bridge...didn't your hair keep your head warm from all the wind?
ReplyDeleteHi Pat. That bridge scares me, it is loose and swaying.........
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to have long hair but mine is very fine so it has always been short. But I always wanted long and curly hair of course, no way.
Have a nice weekend.
I'm not sure I could have done that bridge, Pat...I am so scared of open heights...swaying ones would really do me in...though I have done two hot air balloon rides in the Napa Valley and parasailed in Puerto Vallarta ( after about a dozen margaritas ).
ReplyDeleteI guess your hair was too short for a pony tail. The girl in the video sure looked lovely.
Lovely photos and I think your hair looks lovely too!
ReplyDeleteHi...I had to stop by when I saw your link over at The Tablescaper's party. I don't think there is any such thing as a "good" hair day in Ireland...especially if your have curly hair!!! We did the northern Ireland route and I loved the Giant's causeway. It was way too windy to cross the bridge when were were there.(I was actually relieved...not a fan of heights!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your experience and have a wonderful weekend!
XO Barbara
Wonderful photos! Very scenic. You're brave to walk on that bridge.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go to Ireland. Your photos are lovely. It's a great day for beautiful hair like yours! thanks for sharing.. xo marlis
ReplyDeleteOur next trip on the schedule is to Ireland....But I want to go to shop for woolens and leather boots... there will be no crossing any kind of rope bridge in my future....I would die if I had to cross that thing and I am not afraid of heights.....
ReplyDeleteWONDERFUL to see you Pat, no matter what kind of hair day! :o) I'm growing out my pixie hair style, and it's a mess at the moment... a long while until I can wear it up or even in a bun. FUN with with this trip back to the Emerald Isle with you. The Giant's Causeway is on our "someday" list! Happy Weekend ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous place to visit, I have friends going to Ireland in September, I sure wish I could join them. I doubt anyones hair would stay looking nice with that kind of wind blowing!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cindy
My daughter and I visited both the Giant's Causeway and the bridge in Northern Ireland. I think it is always windy there.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing place. I can't imagine such an experience.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a part of "Oh, the places I've been!". Looking forward to having you be a regular contributor.

Great photos of the Antrim coast. You look great with that wind blown look..:) and you're a better woman than I am crossing the bridge. I'd have to "pass" on that. I don't know which would be worse, the trip across or the trip back.
ReplyDeleteso funny! The messy bun is my go-to hair style. I wear it a lot. As the day goes on, the better it is..with the little pieces that naturally fall down...perfect for a windy day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brave girl you are, Pat! Thanks for taking us along on this adventure. '-)
ReplyDeleteOh, lucky you! Visiting Ireland is on my bucket list! Enjoy every moment!
