February Note Card Party

It is time for the monthly Note Card Party event, hosted by Vee from the blog A Haven for Vee. Each month she asks us to chose four photos that we previously published on our blog that we feel would make nice note cards and showcase them on a new post and link up to her party. I missed out on joining in the last few months of the Note Card Party, as I was preparing to move. I left where I lived my entire life, in Brooklyn, New York, to move to a suburb of Denver, Colorado. The best part of the move is that my husband and I now live closer to our children and grandchildren. We feel that this has been one of the most exciting adventures of our lives!  We love it here and I decided to chose four photos from my area that will show some of the beauty of my new neighborhood in Colorado.

This first photo was literally taken in my backyard.  It is one of the mule deers that visit almost everyday as they make their way down from the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

This is a view of South Valley Park which is in in walking distance of my house. I took this photo in the summer, but I also blogged about hiking on a trail in this park recently on this post.

Another deer that was walking in the park and the very blue mile high sky. There is lots of wildlife here!  Besides deer, there are elk, mountain lions, black bears, coyotes, rabbits, ground hogs, hawks, eagles, grouse, wild turkeys and many different kinds of snakes, including rattlesnakes. There is definitely a lot I have to learn about living in such close proximity to nature.

Colorado's big sky and a view of the some of the ancient red fountain formation rocks in the open space of our community. I took this photos while walking on a private trail that only residents can use. You can see some of my neighborhood's houses in the background.

As you can see, I left the excitement of life in the big city for life on the beautiful front range. It is a big change, but one that has filled me with joy.  I love New York and I love Colorado!

Be sure to visit Vee and see her note card photos and links to all the others participating this month...you'll be glad you did!

Any one of these photo's would make a beautiful post card. My
Ex Husband opened the first Donut shope in Denver 1960's. I have been there once. Had a great time at a ski lodge in Breckenridge,
they had a great Jazz club. It was freezing and the road up there was very scary..Glad to hear you are settled and enjoying the new baby.. yvonne

Pat, you have many adventures ahead of you as you discover your new home. Very different scenery from the big city! Beautiful skies, wonderful wildlife -- a whole new way of life! Enjoy and thanks for taking us along.

Pat- your post cards are always beautiful and i love seeing how you've made the transition to Colorado.

Oh those skies! I'm so glad that you are enjoying your life there. Colorado looks like an amazing place and I recommend that everyone get out of NY. My sis and her husband are also considering a move to Colorado as he still has a home there. (I'd not have minded pics of your grands at all!)

Love your choices, Pat. I know you will have lots to photograph in your new home and it sounds like you have adjusted well and are enjoying the differences from where you came from. I love the pictures of your sweet grand daughter and the silver spoon!!!

I love Vee's comment, as I feel the same way. I might be headed for a trailer park somewhere myself, just to keep cost of living DOWN. It is insane!!!!! On a brighter note, I am so happy that you love where you live and are adjusting to the changes. Of course, the grands make everything much more sweeter! xo

Could you have made a more drastic change? Wow! But you have captured amazing views already. It must be kind of like being on vacation every day. I love that you moved closer to your family. They must love having you there.

Great notecards, Pat! I sense a lot of joy in your life right now and I am happy for you. To paraphrase the author, blogger, and one could even say philosopher Jon Katz: I am the author of my story, and I can change it any time. You changed your story by moving across the country and I commend you! God bless, Beth

The pictures are amazing. I've always wanted to visit Colorado. Here's a question from a born and raised city girl, do you ever worry about coming across one of those rattlesnakes or worse, a bear or mountain lion?

Excellent note card pictures of your backyard. Love Colorado!

Thank You all for your visit and comment!

To answer your question, Dee:
I'd be scared out of my wits to come across a mountain lion, bear or rattlesnake! Our community has it's own Rangers and they gave us leaflets telling us what to do if such an encounter occured and the best way to avoid such confrontations. Most of the time those animals don't come down out of the hills onto our properties. We do have to use caution if hiking up into the open spaces and foothills, however, and they advise going in groups and making noise as you hike which usually scars the bears and mountain lions away. As far as snakes, they advise watching where you step or place your hands if climbing. Also, snakes are only active in warmer weather. It's certainly a big change for me from NYC! :)

From the big city to god's country is a big move, but look at the beauty surrounding you. All your note cards are lovely Pat. We've always lived in a rural area and the amount of car exhaust fumes when we visit Toronto just about kills me. :-)
Looking forward to more photos of your four-legged visitors.

Pat, I am so happy for you and your husband. Years ago we moved from Los Angeles to Ketchikan Alaska. Like you I began to learn about living close to nature. It's a wonderful thing. I love NYC, but a visit will suffice. We are back in Southern California now, but living for 20 years in Alaska was the greatest adventure of our lives. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

The colours you've captured in these glimpses of Colorado are amazing. you walked a lot through the streets of New york but I imagine you're really enjoying the peacefulness of your walks and hikes in Colorado. Have a wonderful week Pat!

OMG...that certainly is a big change. I would think it would take some getting used to after spending your entire life in Brooklyn. It must seem like you're on an extended vacation. I think you did the right thing by moving close to your kids! Enjoy your new life.

Awesome photos of your new area of the country. I will admit though that I do miss all of the New York City area photos... There aren't many bloggers that I know who live in that area. BUT--I love Colorado also.

Hugs,
Betsy

What pretty images! You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful area, filled with wildlife. The only one that I would be worried about is the mountain lion. Those cats will hunt you! Just be careful out there!
