Pink, With a Bit of Tiffany Blue!

Our sweet baby granddaughter came home last weekend and we have all been in baby bliss ever since!  Is there anything more precious in the world than a newborn baby?  They are truly a gift from God.  As the poet Carl Sandburg so succinctly said: “A baby is God's opinion that the world should go on.” Thank you all, for your wonderful comments and congratulations to myself and my family over the birth of our granddaughter!  I read and appreciated every one of them!

Our baby "J" came home to much fanfare as her dad decorated their house with balloons and signs welcoming her and her Mom home.  Her beautiful room was all tenderly set up and ready for her.  She is our special little Valentine today! We love her so much!

Since this was our last Christmas season living  in New York City, her grandfather and I decided we wanted to buy a special keepsake for our expected first granddaughter, so we took a trip to the Tiffany and Co. flagship store, located on Fifth Avenue and 57th Street in Manhattan, to buy her a gift.  The store was decorated beautifully for Christmas and was doing a brisk business, as many where shopping on its multiple floors for sliver, gold and diamond treasures for holiday gifts.

The baby gift department was on one of the top floors, and we "oohed and aahed" over many delightful choices before selecting one we thought would be perfect for baby "J"! Here it is in the Tiffany signature turquoise blue box and white ribbon:

Can you guess what we chose?

Yes, we purchased a sterling sliver baby spoon!

I think we've all heard the expression: "Born with a sliver spoon in his/her mouth." and decided to make this come true for our granddaughter in a fanciful way. We had her initials monogrammed onto the handle so it will become a family heirloom for her to cherish.  Hopefully, one day in the future she will be able to pass it on and tell the story to her own grandchild of how the spoon was given to her as gift by her grandparents when she was born.

"J" will certainly be rich in love and attention from her extended family for her whole life.  She is our priceless treasure and one of the many wonderful reasons we recently  moved to Colorado.

Before I finish this post I have to ask all Nikon camera owners if they ever had this problem? I was taking photos of the baby with my Nikon D 60 camera when it froze and the message in the photo above came up. No matter what I tried the shutter release would not work and I could no longer take photos. Thank goodness I have a "point and shot" back up camera to use until I can get my camera repaired.  I'm wondering if this problem will keep cropping up and if there is a way to fix it myself in the future?  Any help in this matter would be appreciated!

Also, IBM has invited me, along with other bloggers, to participate in a ground breaking campaign called #MySmarterCommerce in which I was invited to share my personal story, around how the roles technology and social media play in my life. I will share different aspects of my story for the next 30 days on facebook, twitter and Pinterest.  I hope you, too, will share your story of the role social media plays in your lives. I know that as a grandparent I often relied on social media to see videos and photos of my grandchildren and keep in touch with my children. The video chats of SKYPE were a wonder that helped me keep in touch in a personal way with my grandsons that live here in Colorado while we lived in New York City. I also enjoy keeping in touch with family and friends on facebook, and seeing special offers and coupons on the facebook pages of brand companies. Of course, the biggest and best aspect of social media for me has been through blogging. How else would I have met all of you, dear readers? I feel as close to many of you as dear friends, and I value your comments to me and all your wonderful blog posts.

You can learn more about this campaign in the video below:

I think you're getting little "J" off on the right foot -- a gift from Tiffany's!! What fun you're having Pat. I can feel the joy across the miles. Congrats on being asked to participate in the IBM initiative. Re:camera message. Could it be as simple as replacing the battery?

Such a joy to behold. Babies are our future and as such they are our most precious commodity. Not to mention that they are adorable and squishy. :)

Happy Valentine's Day grandma and grandpa - I am so happy for you, m'dear.

You have a little Julia and I have a little Julianna and pretty soon a little boy baby to ooh and ahh over - Come May.

Thanks all!

Linda, no I tried new battery and everything else I could think of. The shutter is jammed. It seems to be a common Nikon camera problem :(

J looks very much like her mother. Is that what everyone else is saying? She's so adorable! What a dear Valentine to love and get to know. The silver spoon is a precious gift and will come in very handy soon. I loved a long-handled spoon, still do. (I use iced tea spoons to this day for everything that goes into my mouth. Call me nuts!)

Keep having fun and have a wonderful Valentine's Day. Oh, J's daddy decorating the house for her and her mama just warmed my heart. What a peach he must be!

Baby J is just a sweet little gift! I am so happy for all of you!! Her nursery looks really cute!!! Congrats and I LOVE the silver spoon you two bought for her!! Truly...it will be a family heirloom!

We have a NIKON..D200..and haven't had issues with it...have had it since our first grand was born nearly 7 years ago. Hopefully, yours will be an easy fix!

Happy Valentines Day and happy early PINK SATURDAY!

you could try this:
NIKON solution was to take out the memory card and press the shutter release button in the demo mode. To get to the demo mode you first need to go to custom menu/controls/no memory card?/press ok/ arrow down to enable release and press ok. Now you are ready to try solving this problem. Press the shutter release button to see if it will reset the shutter release button.

Hi Pat,

I pasted one solution from the web in the comment above.

Wanted to say your Little Miss J has certainly got grand grandparents! Love that idea! Happiest of Valentines Day with your family!

Happy 1st Valentine's to Baby J! That is a beautiful memento of her arrival into your family. How are the little grandsons reacting to their baby girl cousin? I still see a little of Joe in her and a little of Lisa, too. xo

Oh Pat, this has got to be the MOST PERFECT answer to the prompt "LOVE" that I could possibly imagine! She is beyond sweet! I love your Tiffany spoon -- it is such a beautiful heirloom in the making!

Sorry, have not come across that issue (and hope to God I don't!). Have you tried reformatting the memory card, or maybe using a new one?

Best of luck! And Happy St. Valentine's Day!
xoxo

What a precious gift! She'll treasure it always, I'm sure.

My camera has been acting a little 'wonky' lately too. Sometimes it's because of the lens I'm using. One of my lenses is more troublesome than the others. Good luck!

Congrats on the conference too!

Your granddaughter is adorable Pat and the silver spoon from Tiffany is a perfect gift. I still have my baby spoon and a couple of silver cups with my name on them. Believe it or not, I've found ways to use them. When I reach for a q-tip from my silver baby cup, my grandmother's face always comes to mind (and I'm a baby boomer).

Sorry to hear about your Nikon and hope you can get it fixed. That's a bummer.

She is such a gorgeous bundle of joy. I can hear and see how proud you are and what a lucky child to be brought into your family.
I don't have a Nikkon but a similar thing happened to me. I couldn't take a message used to come up with "the camera cannot communicate with the lens". There was a poor connection between the lens and the camera. Try cleaning the metal connection tabs but don't be too hopeful it didn't work for me. I had to take it back to the store. Luckily it was still under warrantee and they gave me a new lens.
Try googling the problem or go to a Nikkon help forum.
Hoorah for the old faithful P&S camera. This disaster happened to me the day before we left for USA in 2011 and I had to take the trusty P&S. I was quite pleased with the results too.

That nursery is adorable, perfect for an adorable, smiling little gal. Precious. And the silver spoon? Fantastic idea!

Best of luck with the camera problem. I have a Canon, so no words to help figure it out.

AND...Congratulations on the IBM campaign. Such an honor. They've chosen well to have picked you to help the promotion. Good luck and enjoy!

Most of all, though, enjoy that little girl and the rest of your Colorado clan. (Like I need to encourage you to enjoy them, right!)

What a sweet daddy little baby "J" has! I guess a silver spoon before I saw what it was! What a precious little one you have and how wonderful that you can be so near her to watch her grow up.
I would give anything to live near my daughter and her kids, but that will never happen, I don't think.
I'm so glad for media, too, I met you through it. I'm grateful for that.
Hugs, Cindy

A silver spoon is a beautiful gift for a beautiful baby girl.
Our daughter was given a sterling silver bracelet - just like her mama's and her aunties'. I will have to think about what to do for our expected granddaughter!

Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter, who is so much more precious than silver! However, silver is one of my main obsessions and that adorable girl deserves no less! What a lucky sweetheart to have such caring grandparents!!

Hi Pat, I think you found the sweetest little baby keep sake! Special for her for a lifetime. Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter. I love all the photos, that little pink suit is so precious.
About the camera, my Nikon did that the day before Christmas Eve. Our only grandchild, four year old Connor was coming from out of town so hubby surprised me with a new one. The old one refused to ever make another photo. I'm not sure what caused this, only that the camera was old and well used.

Thanks for sharing Pat.

WOW Pat, your post is wonderful of baby J. She is so adorable and I know I have said this several times already but I mean it from my heart. Her beautiful spoon from Tiffany's was a brilliant idea. What a wonderful gift for her to treasure from her grandparents.

How exciting to be chosen for your bio about your connection to so many ways to communicate on the net and what it means to you. You are the perfect person to do this. I am looking forward to your next 30 days of posting.

Our cameras are Cannon. I do hope you can get this fixed. I asked Bill about it and he is very smart but he hasn't a clue. Good luck Pat.

Wishing you happy days as always.
Love, Jeanne

What a sweet bundle from Heaven; you must be dancing for joy! The Tiffany spoon is a great idea. It's functional and a keepsake. Can't get better than that.

Congratulations on your honor from IBM.

Sorry, but I'm no help for you on camera problems (as you can see from my weak attempts.)

Have a good Blue Monday, Pat.
