As much as I might complain about all the snow we have been receiving this winter in New York City I have to admit I love winter weather. The air is fresh and brisk and I find it invigorating to be outside. It's easy to bundle up and enjoy the outdoors. When it is hot and humid in summer it isn't always possible to feel comfortable unless I am indoors in air conditioning. I actually feel more cabin fever in the Summer. I took the photos above this afternoon while walking in my favorite Brooklyn park. The walking trail is almost a mile long oval and I try to walk around three times for exercise. (All photos will enlarge if clicked on once and then clicked on again when they re-open on a new page. Use your browser's back arrow to return to the post after viewing)
A view from both ends of the park, above and below. It's hard to find such a wide open sky in the city so I always feel like I am in a different place when I walk here.
The snow appear blue from the sky's reflection.
Isn't the sky beautiful?
If you looked closely at the photo mosaic you might have spotted this structure.
Someone made an igloo in the center of the park!
A few people and a dog were having fun exploring it.
While the snow is pretty in the park it's not so much fun to deal with on the streets of Brooklyn.
With no place else to put it, there are mounds of snow surrounding the parked cars.
See this mound of snow?
I know it may be hard to believe, but there is actually a car underneath all this snow!
What's your guess?

Did anyone check to see if the owner might be inside that last car? The park was beautiful but you all sure have a mess there still. Great photos.
Pat...Love the one with the park bench. The sky shot is fabulous, too. Thanks for sharing. You'll have to check out my post for ME Monday when I share a picture of in front of my house. ;-)
Vicki
Pat, terrific photos. I too am (or at least I used to be) a lover of cold weather. It's the snow that's getting to me as I get older.
It's awful around here. I've put on more weight this winter than I think, ever before. There's no place to really walk around here since the sidewalks are not as clear as I assume they would be in Bklyn. Plus I fell off the top step of the front porch, so I'm kind of hobbling around. Not a great winter.
Rocky, my chihuahua, has put on tons of weight too. We're going to have to walk it all off in the Spring! ;)
It is so pretty. I admire your ability to embrace winter...especially with ALL THAT SNOW!
Hi Pat, I'm like you... I LOVE snow --and it feels invigorating to be outside in the winter... Some people think that I'm nuts... BUT--I despise the hot summers, so winter is much better for me.
Luckily though, we don't get nearly as much snow as you all get.. We've had some snow this winter --several snows, but no big one. I hope we at least have one fairly big one (one that clings to everything) at least once before spring.
Beautiful pictures ---and I love the igloo.
Hugs,
Betsy
The car owner may just figure it would be a waste of time since another dilly of a storm is setting up for mid week. Glad you like snow, I do too!
I'm glad you enjoy your daily walks. Sometimes I just open the door and step out for a moment or two and I feel better . It was -28 C here this morning so I stayed inside. I can't wait for spring!!!
Amazing snow pictures. The park looks lovely but the streets ugh! How annoying for those car owners.
I wish I could feel that way about cold weather. I just feel shivery, headachey, miserable and overdressed in cold weather.
I hope you will be able to tolerate the Aussie heat. February is the hottest month but most places are air conditioned and the beach is a good place to cool off.
That igloo is fabulous! They even made it out of snow bricks! You have shown us maybe all the facets of snow in New York!!
The park looks great Pat, the street not so much. Sounds like we have more coming Tuesday-woo hoo:@)
The park is beautiful, but the snow around the cars, not so much. I had to say that anymore I adore summer and winter gives me cabin fever. It really used to be the other way around.
I think I might leave my car UNDER that blanket of snow too...A LOT of work to dig that one out.
The park is just beautiful. A lovely walk. We are expecting a HUGE snowfall this week. I am not sure how excited I am about it...we have had SO MUCH snow this winter!
Your smow mosaic looks lovely. It is pretty to look at, I just do not like driving in it. I guess if my car was buried under all that snow, I wouldn't have to worry about driving in the snow.
Your pictures are amazing! The snow does, indeed, look so beautifully - until you get to the shots of the streets, then I remember why I don't like snow ( I lived in Boston for four years! ). After my son, Shawn, was born, I switched from the day to the night shift at McLean Hospital, the psych hospital at which I worked. It was on a huge campus, with a number of separate buildings on several acres. What always distressed me, during the winter, is that the hospital plows would clear the roads and the snow would be piled up, blocking us into the parking lots. It would take us an hour to dig out in the mornings!!
Love that shot of the park bench. And the sky is just beautiful, I love that it tints the snow blue. The igloo is amazing, someone put a lot of work into that - how fun! If the owner of the car tried to get his car out, where would he put the snow? And if you dig your car out, don't they just come along and bury it again the next time it snows? It really is pretty, but what a headache! Kat
Your snow looks cleaner than ours, lol. Your photos are lovely, but I would still trade a spot on the beach right about now.
wow... buried cars. They're telling us up to 17 inches....I may hibernate in our bedroom with the fireplace warming me and forget about the mess. I'm trying to convince my hubby to spend his nights in the city at his brothers...less driving in this mess they think is coming. I have always LOVED snow...I think for the first time ever I am ready for it to stop. I feel like a child like part of me just died... :o( But I am SO READY for spring...but I so understand your thoughts on humid summers....don't like them at all. I don't mind heat but the humidity can do you in. Onward we go...give us strength God! :o)
It does look like a different world on your walk....beautiful! The sky is gorgeous!
Stay safe, my friend.
Your park looks like the perfect place to go walking. If I lived closer to you I'd go walking with you! I noticed the snow looked blue in the sunlight too. At first I thought I was seeing things.
I hope the owner of the buried car digs it out soon. I'm worried a plow might do some damage not realizing it's under there. Maybe the owner is away on vacation or too frail to shovel it out.
I'm with you, Pat! I love the winter weather! Good thing, because more on Wednesday! We have those huge mounds everywhere, too! The park bench sticking out, great shot!
Pat awesome pictures as always...I love visiting your blog :)
Susan
Hi Pat, your photo of the park covered in snow with the dark line of trees on the horizon and the blue sky above is beautiful! I remember digging out the car in the city when it was plowed in( we have lived in NY and Boston!) The snow pushed up by the plow is thick and hard! Yesterday we spent over and hour digging our mailbox out on the main road here. I think more is on the way! Linda
April for sure, unless there is warm spell. I love your park, what a wonderful place to walk.
The park might be a good place to snowshoe? Just wondering...
Your photos are gorgeous!
I am sure the owner of the car will take a long time to shovel off the snow. Or he can take another day off from work, quite a good excuse.
Wonderful pictures! Imagine all the water when the snow does thaw!!! Have a grand week! Cathy
I love your walking path -it is so scenic. People forget how scenic Brooklyn can be. I went for a walk by White Bear Lake and really chickened out when the wind howled. The mounds of snow give me pause - been creeping around mounds for some time now. I do love - how The City quiets for a bit after a snowfall. And your last mound - yep - April.
The snow is beautiful but so much of it can be overwhelming. Nothing like the crisp blue winter sky against the white snow. Love your new header too. Sea witch
I hear there is more to come! You somehow take the snow scene and turn it into amusing art! And I'm just wondering what kind of car is under that mound of snow!
Oh, Pat! That is just frightening to have a car buried like that. But the snow in the other shots is gorgeous. I love how it reflects blue from the beautiful sky overhead.
Please know I am sending warm thoughts your way. I hope you are safe and toasty and that the weather cooperates.
XO,
Sheila :-)
Such refreshing winter.
Beautiful collage and captures Pat.
Thank you for sahring
Happy new week.
Regina
Hello Pat, I would love to experience winter. we are all busy and getting ready here for the big festival and having more rain than ever, seems like monsoon is not leaving so early. Your sky photo is fabulous. Happy week ahead...hugs/M
Hey Pat...the snow photos are beautiful...I can remember the snow looking like that on the street where we lived in Woodbridge, NJ in 1983. We moved from VA to NJ in January and there was this humongous snow storm after we moved. People who didn't clean the snow off their cars were sometimes snowplowed! Love the igloo...I have a question, if you have time you can email me at magnolia.moon.pie@gmail.com How do you make a photo mosaic? I've tried to find info. and tried to figure it out on my own...but no luck!
We heard about that snow storm. The world looks so beautiful after such a snowfall. Enjoy!
No doubt about it: you are a true BLUE New Yorker to love the white stuff.
Happy Blue Monday, Pat!
Pat, the photos of the park are amazing. You take the best shots. Hope who ever owns that car is safe and warm somewhere.
Enjoy the warmth of your home. ~ Sarah
I do love snow covered areas!!! I do love how fresh fallen snow make everything so so so so pristine and beautiful!!!! It's only when people realise they have to get to work and have to go about from a to b that snow gets in the way! LOL!!
Oh but I love the igloo!! What artists!!! Awww brilliant!! And that car!! It's almost like the owner is making a statement - what of - who knows?!?!!?!? I love the flag sticking out of it!!! Great attitude!!
Have a lovely walk in the park! But please take extra special care! x
WOW... you all have snow to rival us here in Norway! ;o) hehe... Oh, my though... that is some heaps of white stuff to deal with. We've had LOTS of snow since November, so winter feels very long already--can't wait for spring! ;o) Much as I'm not very crazy about snow, there is something extra special about winter skies, which I just love--the light is so special. Be keeping warm & safe there! Happy Week, Pat ((HUGS))
Pat, your park is gorgeous. I heard ya'll are running out of places to put all the cleared snow ... ack!
Holy moly! The snpw you guys have recieved, the snow! More to come mid week. It is amazing.
We have been very lucky this year. The snow has turned to rain and melted the snow, and then it snows again so our total amounts are not as much.
I really do not enjoy shovelling out but I love the other aspects:)
Terrific pictures.
With all the snow we get here, I've never seen a car buried before.
It is a mystery why someone wouldn't dig their vehicle out. The dirty snow along the roads is the one thing I don't like about winter too.
Wild photo's, That was teriffic,
I thought it was for ice fishing. We have snowcovered ice houses all over the lakes. Glad to hear you are walking, that's the worst part up here in coastal Maine. I am afraid I'll slip.
Becarefull Pat!! Yvonne
Those are some amazing photos, Pat. You are very lucky to have such a nice place to walk in the winter. It's amazing to see how much snow is still on the streets!
We've been unusually fortunate here with snow coming in moderation. That is due to change this afternoon through Wednesday night. A blizzard warning is in effect. The kitchen is stocked and there's a pile of logs for the fireplace. Let is snow!
I think I'll leave my car in the garage but love the photo of the flag identifying a buried car!!
Best,
Bonnie
On the news in the evening the reports have been that New York City has been hard hit this winter by many snow storms. I bet you will be glad to walk around the park with just a light sweater in a few months.
Love the photos Pat! I am trying to recognize the park, it sort of looks familiar. I think the owner of that car better assemble a team of helpers to dig it out! Do you guys have "alternate side of the street parking" days? Hope not!
:-) xoxo Barbara F.
Hi Pat, I have to agree with you about winter being better than summer. I love the crisp air, and there is more time for me to be outside without a lot of the sunshine that I can't deal with. I am wondering about that car..is it in a place where alternate side of the street parking does not affect it? I would hate to think they were getting a ticket every day! Maybe if it is hidden, it won't get a ticket at all? I would rather have the snow than the ice that is coming our way this week...the power becomes very compromised in an ice storm.
Stay safe.
♥, Susan
Beautiful blues~ stay warm!
Great photos of NYC! Your park looks beautiful! I'll bet it's also lovely in the Spring! I'm envious that you have a place to walk, we don't have sidewalks in my town so walking is dangerous and difficult! I can't believe there's a car under that mound of snow! LOL!!! What was that owner thinking? LOL!!! Have a wonderful week! We're bracing for 2 more storms which will dump anywhere from 12 - 24 inches on top of the 60 that we already have!
My guess would be an older person lives there and just can't handle the job of shoveling all that snow.
I love the photo showing the crisp sky. But then I like all your photos!
Hope your day is going well.
Eeks...as a true Southerner that scares me to death...but the park is beautiful!!! Your photography is awesome and thanks for sharing!!!
Have a wonderful week!!!
Barbara your profile won't allow me to write a comment to you as it is not public? The park is Marine Park.
No, the neighborhood where that car is buried under snow does not have alternate side of the street parking. In any event that has been cancelled most of this winter.
Our guess is that the owner of the car must be away ..perhaps they have a Florida home they go to for the winter? I hope that it's not being damaged by all the frozen snow on top of it.
I don't mind the cold, I guess we wouldn't live in NY if I did. But when it looks like that in your last pics, it's time to go. Just ugly , dirty, mess!
You mentioned mine looks so clean. Not many out here, and houses are spread out, so it stays cleaner.
Went to son's in Nassau yesterday. UGH, barely enough room to get by. And I didn't see one group of kids out playing in it. I think they are sick of it, or it is too deep!
I love snow! You certainly have plenty, don't you? and more coming I hear! We do, too!
With the storm coming tomorrow the snow banks will become even more dangerous. I have to inch out at a snails pace to get out of my street. Beautiful winter photos Pat.
Thank you for bringing me along too Mille Fiori Favoriti! Because I heart the winter AND the east coast!
xox

Now that is a lot of snow! It is beautiful...but you can have it. Smile.
You certainly have had a lot of snow this winter. I understand there is another storm on the way later this week. I love the snow as it is falling...a wonderful quiet seems to come over the earth. But having to get around in it when it turns gray and slushy is not much fun. Your park looks beautiful and the snow nice and clean. Love it. As always your pictures are fabulous. I've been out of the loop for a couple of weeks so it's so nice to be back to visit you again.
The skies and space in the park must be a haven in the middle of NYC. It looks beautiful! So crisp and clear.
I'm just thinking what it would feel like to retreat to bed with flu, then get up 3 days later and find your car buried under 6 feet of snow :)
Another person that likes winter! I have been reading about folks that are so over winter and even are beginning to feel sad. I am invigorated by the newness of January and the beautiful white snow. I don't even mind shoveling although the last snow was sooooo heavy!
Your photos are beautiful! :)
Great mosaic! Stay warm ;)
I am loving your snow pics! They are beautiful and I'm glad you are enjoying your walks in the snow! Snow removal is good, but the pile ups are a little more challenging to deal with. I hear you are getting more "weather" this week.
I think the owner forgot where she parked and the snow is covering up the tennis ball on her antenna.
I never would have thought that the park scenes were in NYC. Thanks for showing us.
Thanks Pat for responding to my note! At first I thought it was Dyker Heights, Marine Park was my next choice!!
I hope the owner of that car isn't on vacation and coming home to that mess! I just got back from a week in Miami and can't believe the difference in the snow piled along the streets - and my driveway -with more coming down right now. You have a good attitude toward the winter weather Pat.
HELLO PAT!! I'M ALSO A NEW YORKER :) I LOVE THE WINTER, SO IM WITH YOU...LOL THANKS SO MUCH FOR STOPPING BY MY BLOG AND YOUR SWEET COMMENT!! I GROW UP IN BROOKLYN :)
THE PARK PIC'S ARE MY FAV!!
XO~MARI
Oh my goodness...it is beautiful!!!! I agree, the snow, and cold weather are so invigorating! However, we don't live in it. We visit it often, just an hour away in our local mountains. Yes, my grandson does love his trucks. He is such a boy..through and through!!!!
Have a beautiful week friend!
More cold, wintery storms on the way, too! Brrrr! Pat, that park is BEAUTIFUL! What a wonderful place to walk. If I lived nearby, I'd love to walk with you there! Stay warm!
Morning girl..how on earth have you been!!! I hope all is well with you and yours...Love the beautiful snow pics...it can be so breath taking to look at at times but lordy girl if we had that much snow down here we'd all need counseling!!!! lol We shut down with just snow flurries! Just wanted to say hi sweetie and hope you have a great week! Picket
I laughed at the car buried in the snow. Reminded me of when I went to SUNY@Albany. Way to much snow up there. Obviously I had a brain freeze when I decided to go there for college. The snow looks pretty and so does the sky in your photos but I hate walking in it as I am not the most coordinated person:-) Stay warm.
Joyce
Oh my gosh, the car covered up???? How do they ever get it out of there and what does it do to the car? I am showing my native California inability to even imagine snow (although I live in Maine for half of every year, you can imagine which half it is).
I especially love the sky photo and THE IGLOO! in the middle of the park. Wonderful.
Keep your chin up, the days are careening toward spring.
Sending all joys and a big thanks for your visit,

Forgot to mention that I really love the old lighthouse near Saugerties, New York. Your neighborhood. They have a small B&B there and it is charming, but I haven't been there lately. Since you're also a lighthouse lover you owe yourself an adventure to Saugerties. WHEN THE SNOW MELTS!
Joys,

Just look at all that snow! Wow! Your photos show that there is beauty to be found everywhere, even when we're tired of winter.
Hey Pat!...I would love to play in that snow, whoo hoo!

Kind of wishing there was some kind of "linky" of all the bloggers who will be going through the upcoming storm and willing to post what it means to there area.
Ice storms...they are the WORST!
Ohhhh, Pat, you have the most amazing way of seeing the bright side of things. Way cool! Hope that NYC doesn't get too much snow in this storm. It wasn't supposed to start here before evening, but actually began around 10 this morning. So much for the weather frogs.
Hmmm, are you going to have a contest about that snow? I think it'll be gone by March 13.
All that snow is crazzy! I saw on the news a picture of a car in NYC that was incased in ice of all things! Living in Southern California and needing our cars so much...that seems crazy to us. Take care and stay warm...the park pictures and especially the sky photo are wonderful!
I love winter too, but I might reconsider if I had as much winter as you! Your photos are always so amazing and it is such a joy to read your blog!
I smiled at the car buried beneath the mound of snow. That car might likely have the best device against theft. I wonder if it is locked?
The snow is just beautiful. I am wondering how much is dumping there tonight? I was reminded of a picture I put out every Christmas of a small igloo large enough to hold my two little boys and their daddy. Boy ..that was long ago.
Wonderful crisp snow scenes in the park. Hmm my theory on the car... it belongs to a visiting tribe of inuits who have just hunkered down in the car igloo fashion and are waiting for Spring. LOL
I love winter too Pat..love walking in the cold air rather than sweating in the summer...but that snow on the streets! I am sure you will be happy to see it go! How are the sidewalks?
It seems snow and water reflects more or less equal.
Hehehe, who said it's cold and snowy in Norway, when seeing these photos?
You have lot's more snow than we have and even colder;-)
Wow! The snow is amazing! I don't think that car will be seen for a long time! love the sky photo. It's snowed a lot where I live this year, but not nearly so much as there.
you have some wonderful pics here :) ~ Love your blog!!
I share all my fun commuting pics on FB - working on a new site for lifes pics :) ~ glad I found you! I have a cat named Boo who looks like your black one who's gone. I love that quote you used. I too am a quote monger & share with my FB friends :)
I would love to be entered in your wonderful drawing, If you get a chance I am #809 on the OWOH tour.
