Western Welcome Week in Littleton, Colorado

The annual ten-day Western Welcome Week took place in my area of Littleton, Colorado, with Sunday, August 18, as the final wrap up day. More than 40 events take place during the celebration, on and around historic Main Street, which benefits dozens of local non-profit organizations and encourages community spirit in the greater Littleton area. There were many local food concessions and arts and crafts vendors, a juried art exhibit, "bags of books" sale at the local library, a quilt show, an antique and vintage sale, amusements and entertainers, and The Festival Day Grand Parade has been held for the last 85 years! The 33rd annual Littleton Firefighters Children's Parade also took place during Western Welcome Week.

All photos and photo collages will enlarge if you click on the photo once, and then again when it opens larger.

Unfortunately, I did not spend as much time at this wonderful event as I would have liked to, as I was recuperating from a long and tiresome dental visit that took place last week. However, I did have fun walking around the Historic Downtown Littleton.

There were so many antique shops that I can't wait to explore in the future!

I also spied a cozy Tea Room, and I'd like to try their afternoon tea one day soon.

There are some wonderful restaurants in Littleton...

...as well as a variety of specialty shops like this Irish Goods store! Did you notice the clever use of a vintage clawfoot bathtub on the front lawn that was made into a planter?

I enjoyed seeing the wonderful cottage style houses that peppered the local streets.

I think this sweet little yellow cottage was my favorite.

There was also some more updated houses in the historic districts...

...as well as modern townhouses and apartments.

I know I'll be visiting Littleton frequently in the future, as this is the closest town in my area,

Isn't it such a charming place? I can't wait to explore it more!

What a nice place to visit. Another one of my blogger friends lives in Littleton. You have my sympathy on the visit to the dentist. I've had more than my share of pain inflicted there myself :)

Oh I'd be making a beeline for the tea room soon, too. It looks delightful. Loved seeing the cozy little shops and homes.

(Sorry about the dental work. I have some coming in September and I'm hoping that they'll dispense a tranquilizer beforehand. The older I get, the less I can handle in the dentist's chair. To think that I used to refuse novocaine! )

Looks like a great town for sure. I'm sad we never got there to visit Dear's relatives that hailed from this town. His cousin had a bridal store there for many years...
Sorry about your dental experience. Hope all is well by now!

What a neat town... Hope you get to go back there sometime. Isn't Littleton where that horrible killing happened at the school??? What a shame....

I love Littleton! I go once a month for a meeting at the local quilt shop. My friends and I always go to lunch at one of the local restaurants (you must try Romano's or Merles) and hit the local spice shops. Wonderful places.

It is quite a charming place! I was just thinking of you as I started (a little late) my comfortable summer "read". "Goldy Schultz" is a caterer near Denver. I've been enjoying her sleuthing escapades for a number of sumers now. The author is Diane Mott Davidson. If you haven't read any of the books, I recommend them. All always turns out well in the end.

Best,
Bonnie

I love Old DownTown Littleton! Your pictures are great!

I recognized all of the businesses and many of the houses you captured with your camera. The Terra Cotta Cafe and Serendipi-TEA room are definitely worth your while as well as Merle's (a former gas filling station). Old DownTown Littleton is a fun place any time of year; they always make holidays special.

If you are into cross stitching, FanciMats & More on Princeton is a great place to shop.

I hope you recover soon from the dental visit....

Betsy --to answer your question: No, that happened in the town of Columbine. Littleton has a totally different high school. Sadly it was misidentified by the media as the location of the Columbine HS where the tragedy occurred many years ago. Sadly, the media often gets things wrong like that!

You're right; it is a charming town! I'd love to go with you to the blue tea house.

Sorry to hear about the dental YUK. I seem to spend WAY too much time there myself.

Thanks for playing.

Happy Blue Monday, Pat.

Hi: My first visit here! From LittleRedHouse blog.
Wow: you moved from NYC to a Colorado suburb!!! That IS culture shock!. I was a New Yorker for many years, but made a more gradual transition (Hudson Valley to now Chapel Hill, N.C.). Kudos to you. But to be near children and grands is the way to go. I'll be back!

Littleton looks like a town with a lot going for it. How fun that you live close enough to be able to return and look through those antique stores and have tea.
Dental work makes me shudder. I have some coming up in September and I'm dreading it already.

I could see spending a day there, poking in and out of those shops and pausing for a nice cup of tea. I think that yellow house is my favorite too Pat.

Hi Pat, I am finally home and rested up from two weeks in MI for my cousin's funeral. Thank you so much for your kind comments about the loss of my cousin. I am still so sad and keeping her close in my heart with the many years of wonderful memories we had. A happy side was connecting to both of my parent's families. Both sides made a huge effort to gather together in a reunion because we were there.

If we ever go back to Colorado I would love to visit the town of Littleton. What a charming place to visit. I too would love the antique shops and especially the tea room. Your photos tell a lovely story as always.

I hope you are feeling better. I dread any reason to go to the dentist!!!

Thank you for the tour for Blue Monday.
xo, Jeanne

Littleton is a nice town. My brother and his phamily have lived there for many years and my sister-in-law Cheri's mom had a lovely home right off the main street! She lost her mom this last Spring! My brother lives so close to Columbine HS he can hear the school bell ring! His youngest daughter and one of his grand daughters attended Columbine. The other kids attended Chatfield HS and if you visit the park near the school you will notice my maiden name there. It is named for my sweet niece Sarah Kocman who passed away in 1996. At the time of her death she was the first female student at Chatfield who had lettered in every single sport that a girl could participate in then! Littleton has lots of nice memories and it is sad that people recall the tragedy of Columbine HS. My grandson Andrew attended Heritage HS and each year they host the Liberty Bell XC Invitation that Nick attended for 4 years of high school! In fact, my hubby and I plan to visit the runners from Nick's high school on Sept. 13th and watch them run. It is one of the largest cross country races here and many other states participate in it. I better sign off but I could tell you lots of other nice things about Littleton, Colorado!
