This is a shot I took of The Statue of Liberty ("Liberty Enlightening the World") in New York City's harbor this summer. She is a wonderful landmark symbol of the United States of America's independence and freedom.
This WWI Camp Dodge, Living Statue of Liberty, comprised of 18,000 officers and soldiers who posed as Lady Liberty in 1918, is another wonderful symbol, to me, of Veteran's Day. Throughout our nation's history it has been the services of the four branches of the armed forces, who have selflessly defended our country to preserve our freedoms. Our Veteran's are our nation's backbone and its greatest treasure.

Well, I was really sdmiring your great picture of Lady Liberty, then was dumbstruck to see the next picture!! I had to enlarge and see some of the people in it! It's too bad not many people know about this, it should be somehow publicized, how amazing! What a great tribute to Veteran's Day!
The 1918 photograph is incredible! What a feat of organisation!
Hi Pat! Happy Veteran's Day to yo all! That second picture is amazing...
Blogtrotter Two has moved to a new country and actually to the most populated city in Africa. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

What great photos of Lady Liberty. God Bless all Veterans.
I went up to the crown when I visited NY- a special moment being inside a world renowned icon.
Love how she was made from men in your pic- I hadn't seen that before.
Holidays like this make me remember how much I love America. Then after it's over I turn on the news and wonder again what is happening to it.
A very nice post for Veterans Day 2010!
Lady Liberty never fails to make me stop short and catch my breath. Poignant remembrance.
Pat, this is such a perfect post for Veteran's day--remembering how our liberty is preserved. I have never seen that WWI photo! Fascinating! Linda
That beautiful statue is an international symbol of peace and refuge - even to those who may never have seen the real thing.
Wonderful pictures of Lady Liberty Pat. This was a great post for the day.

As I am reading this it is the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month...thanks for reminding us of the importance of this day....
...and I love your photos!
I was 18 when I saw the Statue of Liberty. She took my breath away.
I am grateful for the freedoms she represents and are possible because of the sacrifices of our veterans.
She is so awesome!
So are your pictures!
Wonderful post. My AF reservist son is with his squadron for two weeks in Honolulu - not a bad assignment. I hope he's not having to work to hard today.
I came home from the hospital Tuesday...can't believe I've been a patient twice in six months.
Check out my poem ( humorous ) today about hospitals!
I am so glad you thought of using the Statue of Liberty. What a nice post. Thanks for your kind words about my daddy and his service in WWI. Our civics teacher used my blog in her classes today, and all the kids came running to me saying I looked just like my daddy....got my poppy so am happy. Genie
Truly unique visuals!
Love the sentiments and the respect you are showing on your blog today!
What a wonderful shot of Lady Liberty! You know this post made my heart skip a beat. Beautiful tribute, Pat.

Beautiful photos Miss Pat!
You have made lady Liberty proud.
~Another friday's favorite for sure :-)
Beautiful photo and post. When they gave Lady Liberty a face lift about 25 years ago, they carted the old torch around the NY/NJ area for people to have a look at. I remember taking our kids to see it.
Hi There, Thanks be to God for all of those in the Armed Forces (past and present) who fought for our country and our freedom...
God Bless them ALL.
Hugs,
Betsy
