We had a spring surprise this weekend--snow! It was 89 degrees (31.6 C) on Thursday, and then on Friday a cold front and rain came in from the west. As the temperature dropped the rain turned to snow and it snowed throughout the night.
We woke up Saturday morning to this!
Our area had about 10 inches (25.4 CM) in total and some areas had up to two feet (60.9 CM) of snow!
What happened to Spring? Even the deer was confused!
This sweet yearling buck is growing his first set of antlers.
The snow melted very quickly on Sunday as it was sunny and temperatures rose. The snow brought much-needed moisture to much of the state which is a blessing. Sadly, though, many tree limbs fell during the storm as the trees were fully leafed out and the snow was wet and heavy. Many people lost electrical power as a result, but the community I live in has underground electrical lines so we were fine.
I was so glad I held off on planting outside the tomatoes and peppers that I had started growing from seed in March. I had given some to our son, and a neighbor, that they planted, but experience told me I could not trust that we had our last frost as yet. I will wait until June to put them out and hope for the best.
Our oldest grandson's Lacrosse team was able to play their championship game today! As you can see the snow had all melted with just a bit left in the foothills.
Our oldest granddaughter's class went on a field trip to Denver, last week and I had to share this cute photo of her hugging the 40-foot-high (12.2 meters)) Big Blue Bear sculpture that is outside the convention center. The sculpture is by Lawrence Argent and its official name is "I See What You Mean."
This is the last week of school for the grandchildren and we are all looking forward to a wonderful summer. Do you have any special summer plans?

I love the Big Blue Bear photo, so cute! The snow looks pretty, I am hoping our last frost is long over now. The deer are so cute, love the wet buck.

The snow pics are pretty and I know you needed the moisture! My niece lives outside of Denver and I saw pics of here running track with piles of snow in the back ground!

The weather this year has definitely been weird. How adorable are those deer!
WOW!! What an amazing snow scene you had! Good for the moisture, that's for sure. I love the area you live in and miss my twice yearly (at least!) trips up from Texas to Colorado of years gone by. Louis Dean and I may drive up in September either on our way up to Kansas City or back - making a big detour just so I can see the Rocky Mountains again! There used to be a restaurant up from Golden in the mountains called El Dorado Steak House (I think) and I am wondering if it is still there. Maybe I can Google and find out! I loved coming down from there at night after having dinner and seeing all the lights of Denver spread out like sparkling diamonds on a black velvet dress!
Snow is awesome, but the weather this year has been very odd. The deer, while confused are indeed lovely to see.
Fine photos of that cute young deer. The Blue Bear sculpture is amazing. My son also had a foot or more of snow on Saturday, but the sun should melt it away before long, and the moisture was needed.
It always seems sad to me to see snow late in spring. I hope it warms up for you soon.

Even when you need the moisture, ten inches of snow in mid-May is a bit to take. But your photos are fabulous, especially that magnificent deer with snow! He's wonderful!

Pat - we are in Grand Cayman, and today we were diving. One of the other divers on the boat is from Boulder, and he was telling us about this surprise snow fall! So glad for the precipitation, even if it meant some tree damage and (temporary) power loss. Our summer plans include the usual activities - hiking, gardening, kayaking. We will also be making a trip to Idaho Falls over the fourth of July to visit our son! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
Wow that really was a snowfall and not just a little flutter. How sensible not to plant your seedlings out just yet. The grandchildren don't finish school for another couple of months yet but I have already sorted out a week's trip to a petting farm for us all which they are excited about.

I think we had our week of summer a week ago. Now we are back to rain and cold.
I did put some plants on the balcony this weekend.
The west has been so dry this year, snow certainly brought much needed moisture. Everything also looks so beautiful when it snows. Good thing you held out of planting though.

Wow they are beautiful photos of the snow. Glad you could save your plants. Hope the snow helped your drought problem. It's usually us with drought but we have the opposite this year due to the long La Nina influence.

That's the craziest example of what I know is changeable weather in beautiful Colorado! But all that snow and then it melted the next day is simply mind-boggling. My kids are on the other side of the state now, so I didn't near personally about this storm, as they didn't get snow, but I had read about it. Glad you didn't lose power -- underground utilities sure seems like the right way to go!! Have a wonderful summer -- we plan to be in Oregon for most of it!
