When I was in Atlantic City last weekend I saw this beautiful view of the Absecon Lighthouse from my hotel window. The sun was setting and it gave the surrounding clouds a beautiful pink hue, that I thought would be a perfect photo for Beverly of How Sweet The Sound blog's Pink Saturday event.
The Absecon Lighthouse, located on Rhode Island and Pacific Avenues in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was built in 1857. It stands 171 feet high and is the tallest lighthouse in the state of New Jersey and the third tallest masonry lighthouse in the United States. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it is still lit by the same Fresnel lens used to light the way for mariners when it first opened.
I find there is something so romantic about these stalwart sentinels of the past, and the next time I am in this area I'm going to make a point of visiting the lighthouse and walk up its 228 steps to the top!
As a tease, I'm showing close ups of two other things I saw in Atlantic City. Can you guess what they are?
These pretty glass ornaments look like they'd be perfect as decorations for a Christmas tree, don't they?
If you've stayed at this hotel in Atlantic City you'll know what they are, but if you haven't, then please come back to my blog on Monday and I'll show you the full pictures of these, and more, beautiful art works of glass!
I also want to thank Jo at My Paper Playhouse blog where I won her fun give away of a box of Elmer scrapbook products. I love the hot pink x-acto self healing cutting mat, the decorative scissors and assortment of scrapbook glues and tapes. I am very overdo in keeping up with my grandson's scrapbook and this is a wonderful motivation to get back to working on it, once the holiday rush quiets down.
Thanks Jo! If you like making cards, and scrapbooking family photos, please visit Jo's blog and be inspired by all her beautiful work!
Be sure to visit Beverly today for Pink Saturday and to see a list of all the participating blogs who are "In the Pink'" today!

A beautiful lighthouse picture!! They've never changed the lens! I was looking at it thinkiing it looks almost like a flame! The curlicues are an astounding picture, but I don't have a clue. The next picture could be a weird shandelier, but I know it won't turn out to be that probably!
Pat, you captured an amazing sight. The lighthouse against that pink sky is one gorgeous shot.
Happy Pink Saturday! ~ Sarah
I would love to climb the 228 steps with you up that light house!! That is a gorgeous photo.
What beautiful glass thingys you also captured. I agree with Ginny...that looks like a chandelier, but I'm guessing that's not correct! :)
What an awesome win....I LOVE to have a PINK self healing mat! The one I have is UGLY green!
I hope you have a terrific Pink Saturday!! L, Dana
Congrats on your win.
I like lighthouses too. The one in this area is short and inland now as a house. I'll try to take a pic when I am in that part of town next.
I think the peeks are light fittings.
I recognized the beautiful glass work. It totally reminded me of the artist Dale Chihuly's work. I must admit I cheated my googling Dale Chihuly and Atlantic City and Borgata Casino came up, so I guess I figured out your pics! I saw Chihuly's work when I was in Jerusalem over 10 years ago. He had an "exhibit" of his glass work scattered around the old city. It was the most amazing glass work I've ever seen. The orange close-up totally reminded me of his artwork.
Buongiorno Pat, I love the headlights, I have a great passion for them, but unfortunately in Italy there are not many and I have not yet lucky enough to have visited them. Your picture is very suggestive!
Have a good weekend!
Oh-Oh...I know the answer!! Can you see me, bouncing up & down in my chair?? Waving my hand?? Call on me, teach!!! LOL
Beautiful shot of the pink sky & the lighthouse & I really appreciated you sharing your trip to Atlantic City with us. Never been there but now I want to go. I never knew there was a hidden reason for building the boardwalk nor did I know they had those cute push carts!! I learn so much from your adventures. Thanks!
The lighthouse picture is amazing! It looks like a watercolor!
Happy Pink Saturday!
Jil
I love lighthouses!
The second photo looks like an Indian sugar twisted sweet like we used to buy along the 'Curry Mile' in Manchester (but obviously isn't - nevertheless, I'm drooling!).
Is the third one a floor lamp because it looks like it may have some sort of shade above the light?
Very tempted to Google, but I'll be good and wait :)
Dale Chihuly has been a favorite of mine for a few years. Delicate beauty.
Gorgeous lighthouse photo...such subtle coloring. I'm thinking the glass works might be some of Chihuly's work. Besides wandering this country and finding waterfalls I would be in heaven to wander around and see his works. Beautiful!
Oh Pat you are such a tease!! I'd like to think that the curly pink thingies are very thin pasta!!! cos for some reason I have food in the brain at the moment! LOL!! Oh but I guess they are something far more elaborate and fantastic! I can't wait to see what they are!!!!
Aww that lighthouse is so amazing framed by the pink skies!! It's great that it's still in use and protected and open to visitors!! 228 steps?!?!?! The view will be worth it!!! :-)
Enjoy your weekend!! And yay for winning that fabulous box of scrapbook products!! Yay! Have fun doing your grandson's scrapbook - so sweet!! Take care
x
Pat,
Can't imagine - looks like glass or candy!
Beautiful shot of the lighthouse. I haven't been to Atlantic City since I was a child!
Happy Pink Saturday!
Carol
I love the shot of the lighthouse! It's beautiful, and amazing to me that they are still using the original lens. In this day and age of disposable everything, that's really something. I love the tease shots of the glasswork, I have no idea what I'm looking at, but that first looks almost like a glass sea urchin. Guess I'll have to wait until Monday. Hugs, Kat
Are those pictures of chandeliers? Great capture of the pink sky/lighthouse.
The November pink sky - there's a scientific explanation as to why November's sunsets are so pretty - but I'll take the romance. And yes, lighthouses are impossibly romantic. The glass orbs loooked like ribbon candy to me!
Such a beautiful picture of the lighthouse. I'm havig a senior moment. Although I remember being in Atlantic City many times while growing up I don't remember the lighthouse. Guess I was more interested in all the rides, games of chance and stuff to do along the boardwalk. I have to say that the one picture looks like a bunch of worms, but I know it isn't so don't consider that a guess.
Hi Pat, I LOVE lighthouses ---so this one caught my attention. IF I didn't 'collect' photos of waterfalls, I'd definitely be collecting lighthouses (and/or covered bridges)... Love them all!!!!!!
Fabulous picture.... I have no idea what your mystery picture is.
Have a fabulous Saturday.
Hugs,
Betsy
The Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio has an extensive collection of Dale Chihuly's work. It is breathtaking!
Happy Saturday! La
I love lighthouses and there are plenty here on the west coast. The parliament is embroiled in a debate about closing the remaining manned lighthouses - a short sighted move on a wild and dangerous coast.
Pat, You captured the perfect moment! The crafty win is great...now you can channel your inner artist.
♥, Susan
Love your lighthouse pic. Wonderful. Happy P.S.
Hi Pat,
Remember me from Chicory Nits? I stopped blogging for a while to take care of my husband who was sick, but I am back. I live on Long Island and have never been to Atlantic City. Have you ever been to the Montauk Point Lighthouse? It is a must see! Happy Pink Saturday!
Hugs,
Carey
First things first...you need to buy a lottery ticket stat! Congrats on two recent terrific wins!
Oh that lighthouse against the pink sky is just beautiful. I'll be back to see the ornaments on Monday. I love blown glass!
I just love lighthouses! Happy Pink Saturday!!
Lighthouse shots are just so cool to me....
Happy Pink Saturday
Great photo of the light house...can't wait to see what the glass "things" are!
Amazing glass photos.
They look like Dale Chihuly blown glass installations.
Love the lighthouse.
I never thought AC could look so good. In fact, when I saw your first photos from there, I thought you visited the set of Boardwalk Empire erected in Williamsburg for the HBO series.
The orange/red/yellow glass screams Dale Chihuly. I saw his work at the Bellagio in Las Vegas - beautiful too.
Are the curling glassworks some of Chahuly's? So beautiful!
Those pinks are really pretty. My husband used to be stationed on a lighthouse in the middle of Long Island Sound in 1967-1969. Happy Pink Saturday and also Happy Thanksgiving.
Pat, the lighthouse photo is stunning. You captured the pinkness of the sunset perfectly.
The close up pics are glorious in their colors. I know it is glass but I will be back to see more. A fun teaser.
Thank you for your sweet comment. You know I feel the same about you. It is so awesome to have the blog friends I have met that truly mean so much and add many blessings to my life. If I don't get back to you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with loved ones all around you.
Warm hugs, Jeanne
lovely pink.
That lighthouse photo is beautiful Pat! The sky! This could be in a magazine:)
I do recognize Chiluly's glass sculptures...Did you get to see his show in the New York Botanical Gardens when it was there? My daughter was living in Brooklyn at the time and we were lucky enough to visit at just the right time:) I also was fortunate enough to attend a slide show/lecture by him when he was visiting RISD...his old alma mater here in RI...
That lighthouse view is stunning!
Sorry for the late visit- I think of busy Saturdays as a "Pink Weekend" since it takes me that long to visit everyone!
Happy belated PS!

Coming back Monday. Happy Pink Saturday. Hey I'm having a giveaway!
Beautiful lighthouse...with the pink sky.
And congratulations on your 'winnings'...Elmer's special. I like that!
Love Chihuly's work. I've only seen pictures!
The pink hue over the lighthouse is a stunning picture!
The lighthouse is remarkable! What a fabulous view! And congrats on winning such a great box of goodies! ♥
I love that first shot of the lighthouse, Pat. You are a marvel with the camera, and this just proves it! Love the other pics, too, and since I am laaaaaaate, I read the other post first. LOL! Enjoyed it immensely.
Happy Pink Saturday and love to you...
XO,
Sheila :-)
What a lovely lighthouse. I find them so fascinating.
When we lived in the Bahamas, our little cay wasn't very far from the beautiful candy striped lighthouse in Hope Town. It's one of the few kerosene lighthouse left in the world and one of the most photographed in the world. It's very interesting to see people painting it by hand sitting on scaffolding when it fades, as it quickly does in the intense sun.
Sam
I spent time in this lighthouse and I think your picture is beautiful against that pink sky. There is something serene about that picture.
Congratulations on your generous giveaway win. I am sure with your artistic abilities, you will do well with those tools.
Happy Pink Saturday, dear Pat.
I love lighthouses, and your shot is stunning.
Pat, thank you so much for mentioning me on your blog ... i feel so honored! now grab those goodies and start creating!
