The first snowfall usually comes early every fall in Colorado. This fall, Denver’s September weather was the warmest recorded since 1872, according to an analysis from the National Weather Service in Boulder, and Southern Colorado hit new heat records in early October. The biggest factor for early-season snow is elevation, with the high Rocky Mountains and towns receiving their first snow earlier than the lower Colorado Front Range.
We finally had our first light snowfall on November 4th; the latest I remember having since I moved West 11 years ago! It made all the fall foliage look even prettier with a mantle of white.
Our next snowfall on November 6th almost broke a record! Denver International Airport and the southeast metro, including Highlands Ranch and parts of Aurora, saw around 20 inches of snow over 36 hours, almost tripling the November average of 7.3 inches.
We measured 24 inches of snow in our backyard, but the air temperatures soon rose and it began to melt very quickly. The moisture was very welcomed, as we had been in drought for most of September and October.
My husband and I had fun watching a squirrel forage for food in one of our trees. He found some tree seeds and spent the morning devouring them.
Our neighborhood mule deer are still in their rut season and there have been more bucks than usual roaming around our yards, undeterred by the snow.

We had our first dusting of our hill and mountain tops this weekend. They are promising some more snow soon. Beautiful photos, Pat. That squirrel is a lot of fun to see and the elk! Have a great new week!
Unfortunately Vero Beach had very destructive tornadoes hit last month. We were in Europe and had no damage but the damage is incredible. A beautiful coating of snow would be more welcomed. Karen (Back Road Journal)

Snow does make lovely photos. The chair full of snow looks funny. The elk sure have made themselves at home in your neighbourhood.
Oh my! I love how that squirrel stands out against the snow! Now, that's some serious white stuff. I'm not ready -- but yesterday it was 60 here and already 54 (only 9:30 or so) today. I'll take it -- but it sure isn't normal!

Pat - we were passing through Denver on November 6 and got delayed by the deicing of our aircraft. But at least our flight was not cancelled! We have had only a dusting so far, but more is predicted later this week. I am impressed with the elk photos! Wow - quite the set of antlers on those males!!!

My goodness I couldn't imagine having deer roaming around my garden. Are they dangerous? However I do love your snowy pics this time of year as summer comes in here. I have always promised to take myself somewhere for a white Christmas but it hasn't happened yet. We have had an unseasonal rainfall the last few days. Good for our gardens but not for the farmers trying to harvest. Enjoy your week. I am joining you at Mosaic Monday.
